A prominent collector and Dubai resident is auctioning the world’s rarest Star Wars action figure prototypes next month, a 33-piece collection which is estimated to sell for as much as $360,000. The owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, pursued only the rarest examples of the toys released in the late 1970s at the beginning of Star Wars mania. Officially titled “The Dubai … [Read more...] about Rare Action Figures up for Bid at Heritage Auction

Some Eye-popping Results at Hakes Auction #220

March 24, 2017 By Brian 4 Comments

Some wallets were emptied at the recent Hake's auction. Hake's does a great job of only listing the rarest and the best pop culture collectibles, and the prices their auctions realize is a testament to that. Here are a few of the results that caught my eye. This Adventures of Superman syndication promotional kit sold for $4,283.30, well over the $400-700 estimate. This … [Read more...] about Some Eye-popping Results at Hakes Auction #220

E is for the Empire Strikes Back

April 6, 2016 By Brian 1 Comment

With all the shelves, doors, and windows, wall space in the cave is at a premium, so it takes a special poster to get framed and hung in this space, but an original Empire Strikes Back movie poster fits the bill nicely. Empire is my favorite of the original trilogy, mainly because of the Hoth scenes at the beginning. That frozen planet drove my imagination wild as a kid, … [Read more...] about E is for the Empire Strikes Back

D is for Drinking

April 5, 2016 By Brian 6 Comments

We've reached day 4 of the Blogging from A to Z Challenge, and I'm still here, but man, I could use a drink. Fortunately, as I look around me in the cave, I see plenty of cups and glasses to hold the drink of choice. Let's take a closer look at a few examples... This Planet of the Apes cup would have been my favorite cup for watching Saturday morning cartoons back in the … [Read more...] about D is for Drinking

Product placement is back in full force!

June 2, 2015 By Brian 6 Comments

If you've been grocery shopping or visited a toy store recently, you've no doubt been inundated with pop culture characters emblazoned on products throughout the store. It seems like there is more product placement than we've seen since the 80's, and I love every last bit of it! The Avengers are on cereal and cracker boxes, soda cans, Dorito bags and more, but they're not … [Read more...] about Product placement is back in full force!

Yard sale season has begun!

May 4, 2015 By Brian 16 Comments

You smell that? The scent of grass clippings, cherry blossoms, and people's musty old junk hauled out of storage -- thats right, yard sale season is here! I had pretty good luck at a big community yard sale this past Saturday. Yard sales are where I get my stock for the year -- items that I can resell online to make money to fund my own collection, so if you see anything in … [Read more...] about Yard sale season has begun!
