It’s always Christmas morning when a new Hake’s auction catalog is released. The latest offering, Auction #217 is online now, and after a recent upgrade to their websit, you can now super-size all of the images. Check out some of my favorite items below…
“CLASH OF THE TITANS” LOOSE ACTION FIGURE SET
Clash of the Titans is one of the earliest movies I remember watching as a kid, and it’s all due to the Ray Harryhausen effects. The image of the Kraken appearing on the screen has never left my memory and this large monster toy has been on my holy grail list for years. I have been fortunate enough to obtain a Shogun Warrior Godzilla, and a Kenner Alien, but the Kraken has yet to find its way to my cave. Maybe this is my chance!
“BATMAN MOBILE BAT LAB” BOXED MEGO VEHICLE
I’m not the biggest Mego fan in the world, but I do love the vehicles they produced for the World’s Greatest Super Heroes line, and the Mobile Bat Lab has always been at the very top of that list. Adam West will always be “my” Batman, and I can totally see him employing this wacky van on one of the shows. These vans are tough to find in decent shape, and this particular example is excellent.
AURORA CREATURE ADVERTISING SIGN
This is one of those items that had me picking my jaw up off of the floor. This is a double-sided, die-cut cardboard sign promoting the Creature model kit that Aurora produced in the 60’s. Hake’s also has signs for Dracula, the Mummy, and Frankenstein up for bid, but this Creature gets my vote.
“TARZAN CUPS” CUSTARD VARIANT STORE ADVERTISING SIGN
If I was in charge of decorating my house (AKA: single), this is the kind of artwork that would be hanging in my kitchen. Nothing makes you hunger for a delicious cup of custard like a barely-dressed man stabbing a leopard in the head.
SUPERMAN “KELLOGG’S PEP” CEREAL STORE ADVERTISING STANDEE
Speaking of great art for the kitchen, this rare Superman standee would the prize of any collector’s collection. I can’t think of anything I would rather stare at every morning while eating a bowl of oatmeal. This standee is almost four feet tall and I have just the spot picked out for it!
“WAR OF THE WORLDS” LINEN-MOUNTED MOVIE POSTER
Now that the kitchen has been updated, I’m going to need something equally amazing for the living room, and this original War of the Worlds one sheet will do the job. This is one of the most iconic images in movie poster history, and I can only imagine how vibrant that orange must be in person.
“DRACULA” STARRING BELA LUGOSI EARLY THEATER WINDOW CARD
Okay, the walls are filling up rapidly, but I still have room for one more. The image on this Dracula window card is sure to keep you up at night, but it is so creepy cool! I’m always intrigued when I see items like this that were made almost a hundred years ago. I tend to think those days were prim and proper, and can’t imagine what people strolling down the street must have thought when they saw this image in a window.

The list goes on and on, but these are a few of the items that really got my attention. Check out the whole auction catalog on Hake’s website. Bidding closes on March 15-17.

What did that poor leopard ever do to Tarzan? Obviously not a PETA ad.
I could use some PEP cereal on this Monday morning.
