It was a busy weekend on the collecting front! On Saturday morning, I headed out to the Big Flea to meet up with fellow bloggers from the Toy Box and G.I. Jigsaw to see what pop culture goodies could be found. I called dibs on the Batman items, which worked out great, because now I had two sets of eyes helping spot items I may have missed (thanks, guys!).
Loyal visitors to this site know that I frequent the Big Flea whenever it comes to town, and it was fun to scan the booths this time around with a couple of fellow collectors, each of us looking for different items. I know I had more luck than the others, but there was plenty of great stuff to see.
I’m the most casual of comic collectors, but when I find 12-cent books in this kind of setting, I’ll usually pick them up. The Big Flea is far from being a place for comic collectors, so sometimes you can find some good stuff buried in a pile. I found a stack of Superman and Batman titles which will look great on the shelf.
I also found a NIB 1989 remote control Batmobile and some Marx spacemen. I passed up on these spacemen at the last show, but just couldn’t resist them this time around. Here’s a link that shows some of the awesome original packaging for these figures.
I didn’t bring home all that much, but I was very happy to find this colorful 1966 Batman cup, an item I’ve been hunting for a while now, and it’s finally found its way to my shelf. Looks pretty good!
Later that night, I came across a listing for a huge collection of laserdiscs on a local Facebook yard sale group. The price was great and I’ve had luck selling a few laserdiscs in the past, so off I went! Well, let me first say that these things are HEAVY! I bought over 150 of these movies and got a workout hauling them home.
Here is a sampling of some of my favorites from the bunch. After watching some of these, I think I’ll frame some and sell off the rest. These things are taking up way too much space, so I’ll need to unload the bulk of them quickly. If anyone out there is into laserdiscs, let me know and I’ll make you a deal!
Overall, it was a great weekend for my collecting pursuits. Anyone else find any treasures this weekend?
The spacemen you got were originally done by Cherilea of England. The figures were copied in Hong Kong and used by various companies including Marx. They worth more on the card than loose. especially if they are on a card with Marx on it.

Those laserdiscs are incredible! That’s an amazing collection of titles and it’s only a sampling! Very jealous.
I would definitely be interested in PHANTASM and AKIRA, if you don’t have anyone else clamoring for them.

Awesome finds all around. I love my laser discs and occasionally find some out in the wild. My mind says sell them off, but my heart says no way. What I paid for the HIGHLANDER 2: DIRECTOR’S CUT could buy 10 dvds today.
There was a Highlander in this group. Unfortunately, I think the value on these things has gone down quite a bit. Let me know if there are any titles you’re looking for — this was an eclectic mix with a little bit of everything.

Any Star Wars laserdiscs in that lot?
A Star Wars definitive collection set was in that lot, but I was 10 minutes too late. Another guy cherrypicked it and left the rest. I guess the thought of dealing with 150 laserdiscs was too daunting for him.
Very nice Batman haul. Love the cup you found. Are those comics originals or reprints? I imagine you paid a chunk for them. Vintage Batman comics always go for high amounts in my area.
I never got into Laserdiscs. They were always too expensive. I do have the original Star Wars trilogy on DVD burned from Laserdiscs. I can’t stand the additions Lucas made to them, so I watch these. We are supposed to be getting the original versions on Blu-Ray this year and I am really looking forward to that.
Those comics are all originals. Some are a little rough but for the most part they are in pretty good shape. I didn’t pay more than $5 for any of them.
I’ve been watching a few of those laserdiscs, and it takes me back. It just feels right watching the 1984 Flash Gordon on this format!
