Andrew: Having summer in Xmas and New Year rocks! In Lima, young adults use to go to the beach for New Year (and get drunk). I prefer to go to the opposite side: the highlands.
Man, I’ve had an article started/drafted for years that would go perfectly with this topic. Unfortunately I need to get some pics from some home movies for it and I’m not sure I’ll be able to do this in a timely fashion. I had the pics but lost them when my computer crashed.
Maybe I’ll think of something else.

After reading Miss M. “Summer and Toys post” I wanted to add some information about peruvian summer:
In the South hemisphere, Summer goes from December to March. It means Xmas cames when summer is getting started, so children get new toys for summer!!!
Dolls, action figures, remote control toys, inflatable pools, beach toys, bikes ans skateboards… it was amazing!!!
Sadly, when you grow up and have to go to work/study/do stuff in february (the hottest month in the peruvian coast/amazon rainforest) you literally fell how your brain melts inside your skull. Plus: the average building/house in Perú has no conditioning air!!!
Aaaaarrrghhhh!!!
On Los Andes mountains, it is the rainy/stormy season (goes from Octuber to April). It is also cooler than July or August (the “summer” in the highlands).
