Normally, we’re writing and talking about TV, movies, toys, and collectibles, but this week, the League’s assignment is going to have some of us treading in unfamiliar waters: Music.

What songs were forever being looped on your car’s stereo back in high school. A cassette could only hold a dozen or so songs, so that’s the magic number of songs to list. If your car didn’t have a cassette deck in high school, go ahead and pretend it did, you punk.

Once you put up a post on your site add a comment below with the URL. Next Monday, I will put up a post here on Cool & Collected with a list of all the contributing blogs. Once that list is posted, if you haven’t already done so, try to incorporate at least three of your fellow League members’ links (but more would be great!) into the article you wrote on your site.
By cross-posting like this, we will help each other out by sending new readers to each other’s sites. Have fun!
(Wondering what the heck this is all about? We’re recruiting for this loose-knit, rag tag crew! Here are the details for joining The League.)
A dozen? I guess you weren’t using C-90 tapes, but 12 is a good limit. I always, always used 90 minutes tapes. I used to do a mixtape “series” for a friend of mine to the point of coming up with album themes using the song titles and appropriate titles like “Metal Shop H-666” (sorta like your shop class would be followed by the room number?) and “Audical Illusions.” I’d even put a couple lines on the inside about previous and/or upcoming releases from LabyriTech Industries (because I love the movie Labyrinth).
And yes, I made a few mixtapes for the ladies back in the day too =D
It’s a lost art, that is for sure, Dex.
Hmm, I’ll have to think about this because my mixtapes were rarely random. They were usually themed by musical genre (rap, musical, slow jam, cartoons, etc).
In about 20-30 years it will be “What songs were on being looped in your favorite playlist on ye olde mp3 player?” lol
I think this week is going to have some of the most diverse and eclectic responses yet. Like you said, there are so many different ways you could go with this. We all had those mixtapes for the ladies, didn’t we? 😉
Oh boy Time to dig out the liquid eyeliner..Here’s mine.

Somehow I just knew you would have an old tape on hand. 😉
This one was truly a challenge, because I used to make a ton of mix-tapes… but really wanted to remember this one particular tape that I loved. I think I did it justice, but couldn’t remember everything.

Man, I miss hair bands:

I’m with you, Brian. I was a huge fan of hair bands. I still listen to them. Ratt, Bon Jovi, Poison, Motley Crue, Warrant, Skid Row, etc.
LOVE THEM.
Pax
I see a lotta 80’s, so here’s some 90’s. Enjoy! …or don’t…it’s entirely up to you 🙂

Here we go!

Wow. I just realized there’s a lot of Nazi/Fascist imagery in my selections… Not that any of the artists actually ARE of that persuasion. Just thought I should clear that up!
Wow! You guys have some great music! I’ve really enjoyed checking out all the blogs and seeing what everyone listened to. I have to admit I wasn’t a big music guy so I’ll have to really think on this one. I do know my tape would have had some G&R and Falco
Here is my high school soundtrack….all over the place with this one Beck, INXS, Tone Loc, Phil Collins….

Anybody else find that they’re rewriting the listening habits of their high school days ever so slightly just to get an excuse to throw in a couple of awesome tunes? I’m sure I was in high school when I started listening to the Eagles. I’m sure I was!
I have to admit to adding one I don’t *think* I’d have had on my play list until about a year later but given that it’s been (far too many) years since I was in school, I think I can be excused for being a little fuzzy on the matter.
YES! I like that way. That’s what’s happened to me to. 😉
I’ll be representing the darker side of mix tapes this week. 😉

“Hair bands are for girls.” waitaminnit…
Loving the reads. I am a bit younger than some of you, so forgive my not-so-cassette-tape-nature…. Here is mine…

Leaving behind the hair metal and discovering something new with the help of Riki Rachtman.
Alright, I’m doing something a little different and actually making a mixtape to send out to readers (with my 12 favorite high school era tunes.) Lets see if this works…

Just posting because I can’t pass up the opportunity to point out that there are three female Jaimes/Jamies in The League, and we’ve all commented in a row.
League of Extraordinary Jaimes!
