The League is back in action after taking a couple of years off, and the first assignment is “Shelfie.” If you’ve lingered around my site for a while, you’ll know that I post a LOT of shelfies, and it was actually difficult for me to come up with something new. You’ve seen a multitude of photos of all my stuff, but you’ve never seen a video of it before. Behold!
True confession: this is my first YouTube video. ever. I’ve puttered around with home movies, but never anything that would be viewable by the masses, so be kind.
A few months ago, I got a new Sony Alpha a6000, with the intent of using it for video as well as photography, but it’s been a challenge to get things to turn out the way I envision them in my head. Since I have yet to get my hands on real video editing software, I used iMovie, which is fairly limiting in what you can do with typography and logo overlays — it sure would have been nice to slap a Cool & Collected logo on there. What software do you guys use for video editing?
So, this is the first (and last?) video from Cool & Collected productions. Let me know what you think.
Other members of the Pop Culture League have been posting shelfies all week, so be sure to check out G.I Jigsaw, Toy Break, Pop Rewind, the Nerd Nook, and more!

Holy cool video Brian. Well done. It was a cool way to look at the collection. When the music started, I thought it was going to be the Batman theme music…Duh Na Na Na Na Na Na…Batman!
Anyway – great job. I liked the format.
Brian says
Yeah, I wanted to use the Batman theme but figured a copyright violation wasn’t the best outcome for my first attempt at a video. 😉
Rich says
Man that is epic! Super Powers Bats representing too! 🙂
What’s the glass/ porcelain Batman with the cool/weird symbol and black on the cowl? That jumped out at me. Super cool stuff!

Those are ceramic banks from 1966 produced by a company called Lego in Japan. Those are one of my favorite things in my collection — I have four so far. They’re fairly common — the Robin bank is harder to find.
Shawn Smith-Ford says
Nice Job Brian! I think I spotted something in there I used to have…
Tony says
Insane! That’s the kind of collection one could stare at for hours just trying to figure out what and where some of those items came from.I must say ,the profile masks or whatever those were kind of creeped me out, lol. Good stuff ,man!BTW- Great video. How do you keep things so steady?
Brian says
iPhoto has a stability setting that took out some of the shake, and in some places I slowed down the footage to 25% of actual speed which reduced the shakiness a bit more. Trust me, the original footage was not very smooth!

Who doesn’t love Adam West’s Batman?
His TV series was aired in Perú during the 80s, a total classic!!
Holy Batman toys!
Santos Juguetes de Batman!
😀 😀 😀
The Rebel says
It’s video like this that’ll probably convert non-believers into collectors! Awesome collection Brian!
The Toy Box says
Whoa…At first glance at the one minute mark I thought Robin was holding a gun to blow his own brains out.
Alex says
Wonderful collection! I actually just picked up a pair of those banks, and was wondering if anyone else knew something about them. Have you come across any other American pop culture characters they’ve done?
Brian says
I don’t recall seeing any other banks from this company. A quick Google search came up empty as well, so I’m not sure if they stopped with just Batman and Robin.
Chester Jan Martinez says
What is that solid colored Batman piece at 00:45? The one holding a bat-a-rang? That looks really nice!
Brian says
That is a built up Aurora model kit that hasn’t been painted.
