Philip Reed must never sleep. By day, he is the CEO of one of the most popular gaming companies out there, Steve Jackson Games, and by night, he is a prolific blogger and writer (oh, and he’s also a really nice guy!). His latest book, Action Figure Carrying Cases, hit the streets this week after another successful Kickstarter run at self-publishing, and I have to say that this is his biggest and best book so far!
All of the books that Philip Reed has published so far have focused on a small niche audience that larger publishers could never reach. This latest offering is no different — just how many action figure carrying case collectors are out there?
The beauty of this book is that it will appeal to just about any toy collector, since there is bound to be something within its pages that would fit well in your own collection, whether it’s Star Wars, G.I Joe, super heroes, or even knock-offs and bootleg figures.
The book covers all the larger toy lines and goes deep into the obscure lines you may have never known existed.
I consider myself to be fairly knowledgable about toys from the 70’s and 80’s but this book introduced me to plenty of carrying cases from that timeframe that I have never seen before. The photos are large and colorful, and take you instantly back to the days of your childhood where you would have lugged around one of these cases whenever you left the house.
Never before has such an exhaustive collection of action figure cases been assembled, and if toy collecting is your passion, you should definitely make room for this on your book shelf. If you missed the Kickstarter campaign, this book (or maybe a PDF) may soon become available to purchase over at Battlegrip.com.

I know I have seen that Fantasy Creatures case before. Maybe in a toy catalog or something…

Pretty original considering how many action figure books are aimed at just the action figure. As a kid I preferred to keep my toys on the down low.I didn’t ever want to advertise what I was carrying around for fear of a crowd forming ,wanting to see what Joes I had or didn’t have.If I ever took my Joes anywhere,It was discreetly In a book bag or In my pockets.
