The Big Flea rolls through town every two or three months, and after my last experience, I didn’t think I would be going again for a while, but I’m glad it was a slow weekend, and I decided to visit the show again on Saturday. There weren’t a lot of vintage pop culture toys to be found, but I was able to scrounge up a few fun items.
I already have a few of those Batman puppets but if I come across a nice one in the wild, I’m not going to pass it up. And I was pretty happy to add that Space 1999 puzzle to my canister puzzle collection. This box of “junk” was my favorite find of the day…
The seller knew that the toys in this box were from a Marx play set, but that’s as far as his knowledge went. The box was tucked under a table and many of the contents were in grocery bags that had been tied shut, so I didn’t even know what I was buying. I used that fact to get the price way down — the seller was obviously happy to see someone take it off his hands. Here’s what I found when I got home…
Most of these toys came from the Marx Operation Moon Base play set, but there are lots of other random figures and pieces included as well.
If you know me, you know that I love a good vintage plastic spaceman!
I love the aliens and astronauts in this set. Their designs are based on a Tom Corbett toy line that was produced earlier.
These two blue astronauts have me stumped — if anyone can help me identify them, I’d appreciate it! They have a raised rectangular base, which looks like they may have been hooked onto a vehicle or building.
Any day that I get to add a vintage spacemen to my collection is a good one, so this was definitely a great day!

Hope you keep attending the show – always nice visiting with a fellow collector. Fantastic MARX find!!! A lot of great pieces. I also like the Sunbeam cards – I have a set myself.

I’m looking forward to the Timonium show in a couple of weeks — hopefully, I’ll see you there!

Wow, this is what kills me about being an Canadian collector. No chance of finding something like this prize up here.

Glad to hear you’re still with us Cal! It’s been a tough week without my daily dose of Canadian wisdom. Hope you get your tech problems solved soon!

Your Spacemen with the Yellow spaceman are Remco Yoyage to the Bottom of the Sea divers. They are missing the tabs on the bottom which does not hurt them. They sell for as high as $20.00 each.
the green flourscent aliens are last version of the Marx 45mmaliens. they were sold originally with the Tom Corbett set.
the astronuat in the two piece suit is hard to find.
I hope to be at Timonium too weather permitting. Ask at Gerry Watts table if I am around like to meet you
