I didn’t set out to buy any James Bond collectibles this weekend, but the world had other ideas for me. When I visited Toys R Us, this incredible 50th anniversary tribute to the original James Bond Aston Martin DB-5 by Corgi was screaming to get into my shopping cart.
Hornby has reproduced the original Corgi Aston Martin DB-5 from Goldfinger, and it is incredible! I took the above image of the new box along with the original Corgi box from 1965 (on top) to show the similarities. The car appears to be identical to the Corgi version. All the exciting gadgets are present — ejector seat, machine guns, hubcap blades, and more!
The new box is larger and glossier, and has its own built-in gadget — when you slide open the box, a dossier card slides out the other side — Q would be very proud! After looking into these online, I learned that there is a gold version as well, which was produced in much smaller quantities, so look for the number 04204 if you see these in the store.
How is it that every time I go to Wal-Mart, there seems to be a new series of pop-culture themed cars? Usually they are Star Wars themed, but this time, they had a whole set of 007 cars! Don’t they look pretty all in a row? Most, if not all of these cars, have been released in previous versions, but the art on these cards is perfect for any 007 themed collection. If they produce a second series, I hope we get the Lotus Esprit in its submarine form!

You should always set out to buy James Bond collectibles. There’s also a Thunderball version that is showing up in the UK, watching for that one to show up over here. Well done, this is a great Corgi package!

Nice! I’ll have to keep an eye out for that one. Thanks for the heads up, Todd!
