Yard Sale Finds — Godzilla and Legos!

yard sale finds -- toys and action figures

The yard sales were pretty good this weekend. We hit one neighborhood sale and two church sales, which I have started to really appreciate. The church sales are basically small flea markets, where a bunch of people get together in a parking lot to sell their items along with a bunch of stuff that was donated. The bonus of course is that they usually are also selling baked goods–mmm donuts.

yard sale finds -- Lego minifigs collection

Legos are always a welcome sight at a yard sale, but I knew when I saw a large box full of them at 10:30, they were going to be overpriced. The seller was asking $40.00 which is certainly fair, but yard salers want a bargain. I bundled in a huge stack of books for the kids and brought the Legos home for $30. There were quite a few minifgis in the box, but nothing too exciting. We’ll get our money’s worth out of playing with these and then they’ll eventually find their way to a new home.

Paid: $30.00
Value: $40.00

yard sale finds -- collection of pogs and slammers album

I was laughing when I came across this collector’s album of pogs because just last week, my fellow retro hunter, The Surfing Pizza was showing off an album he found at a yard sale. I’m a sucker for a collection of just about anything, and these things are small enough that I can store them until those kids of the 90’s grow old enough to be nostalgic for them. This album has some pretty fun designs with the Universal Monsters among other things.

Paid: $3.00
Current Value: $5.00

yard sale finds -- collection of Star Wars action Figures

At one sale, I loaded a small box full of action figures including these Star Wars and Gormiti figures, along with a couple of Pokemon, Galactic Heroes, and a Batman on a Batcycle, and some other random items. You gotta love Star Wars figures that still have their guns rubber banded to their hands. I don’t think these guys saw much action on the playground.

Paid: $2.00
Value: $10.00

yard sale finds -- Roaring Godzilla action figure

I was really excited to find this roaring, motorized 1998 Godzilla figure from Trendmasters. He looks great on the shelf and is pretty hot on eBay.

Paid: $2.00
Value: $35.00

yard sale finds -- Grand bank Dory boat model kit

One thing I’ve learned from bargain hunting is to never leave behind an unbuilt model kit. This little wooden boat set me back a whopping 25 cents but someone on eBay has it listed for $89! I think it’s worth an easy $10-15.

Paid: $0.25
Value: $10.00

yard sale finds -- Lego Architect kits

These Lego Architecture kits retail for $20 each, and these two were brand new. The seller wanted $20 each for them but I got him down to $20 for the pair. I’ll probably hold onto these until Lego stops producing them and maybe they’ll rise in value.

Paid: $20.00
Value: $35.00

yard sale finds -- DVD movies

These DVDs were 25 cents each! I’m kicking myself for not buying the whole box of 20 or so movies at that price. I could have easily driven down the road to the used book store and traded them for a lot more than that in store credit.

Paid: $0.75
Value: $10

yard sale finds -- Star Wars Galactic Heroes action figures

I’ve been scooping up these Star Wars Galactic Heroes action figures for a year or two at the yard sales and sell them in lots on eBay once I get a good assortment.

yard sale finds -- STOP vs. SCUM action figure

The highlight of the day had to be finding this Skull Hawk S.T.O.P. vs. S.C.U.M. action figure in the church parking lot for a quarter. I assume this guy was originally sold in the Dollar Store, but how could I leave him behind?

Paid: $0.25
Value: Priceless

So that’s this week’s report. next weekend, my neighborhood is holding its annual community sale, and I hope to find some treasures right in my own backyard. Anyone else have any luck this weekend? Let’s hear it!

Finding things at yard sales has been called my “super power.” I think I would prefer the ability to fly or to be invisible, but I’ll take what I can get. 😉

I just hope I have success this weekend at the HWY 11 yard sale. I’m going to go up as far as I can so I’ll probably see well over 200 vendors and sales by the end of the weekend. . . hope I find something!

nice finds! I scored the aforementioned Visionaries, a couple of Z-bots, a G1 Transformer Metroplex (in what ebay may refer to as “as is” condition, lol), a couple of McDonald’s “changeables” happy meal toys (they transform between robots and/or dinosaurs into food ), a bunch of random junky Ninja Turtle toys (of course my favorite finds), an early Chuck E. Cheese figure with the Showbiz Pizza marked on the bottom (I recently got the creator of Showbiz Pizza’s autograph on some Showbiz 45s, so this is shaping into a new collecting line for me), and a Battle Armor Skeletor, which I’d owned once before but traded to a friend for a late-70s pressing of Sgt Pepper. (the 70s pressings sound magical.) Geez, I guess I should just do a post of my own rather than blow up your comment section.

Nice! I think I have an old ceramic Showbiz Pizza guy around here. Never saw a market for it before, but here you come waltzing through the door! 😉 I’ll try and dig him out of the basement stash for you.

    Nice finds.

I went to one up in Yonkers, NY of Friday and saw nothing. One guy was selling a Doc Ock figure from Spider-Man 2 for 15.00 and the card was ripped in half.

Still, I want to hit other church sales this summer and see if I can’t get lucky.

That doesn’t sound like a good bargain. 😉 Hopefully things will get better.

I didn’t hit any yard sales, but we went to GeekOut in Asheville, NC. I hit this guy’s booth early to score Mego Green Arrow, Thing, Mr. Fantastic, and the Penguin, as well as a Six Million Dollar Man and complete Bionic Bigfoot. Throw in a couple of trade paperbacks, and I made out like a bandit. (For example, he only wanted $15 for the Thing that hits $60-$80 on eBay and the Bionic Bigfoot who is complete for $25.) He was pricing things to move, but he knew what he had. My only regret is that I didn’t have cash to buy more.

Another excellent haul Brian! I was able to find a few things, for which I only paid a dollar. You can read about it here.
