Hunting season officially started this weekend — the yard sales are back! Our annual neighborhood sale has always been a worthwhile picking field, but the threat of rain and off and on drizzle scared away many people from participating on Saturday. I still managed to score a few good finds to stock the shelves, and even found one item that I will treasure always. Here’s the overview…
The way I fund my own collecting disease is by reselling items I find at yard sales. On average, I can make at least ten times what I pay at the yard sales, which allows me to buy some vintage Batman items for my own collection. Over the years, I’ve tried to focus more on quality and less on quantity, since I just don’t have the room to store these items long-term.
The Pokemon Master Trainer game is pretty desirable, and a Ferrari belt buckle from the late 70’s is certainly destined to find its way to another collector’s home in no time!
The huge Schleich castle was one of the best finds of the day for just two bucks. I saw the Lego Hobbit set in an overview photo on the seller’s Craigslist posting the night before — the posting mentioned that early birds were welcome, so I arrived early enough to help the seller unpack her boxes, and also picked up a few other items in the process.
Nerf guns are my new gravy train. The kids around here have TONS of these guns, but the easy money is in the ammo belts and clips. You can pick these things up for pennies and flip them in no time. Some sellers even strip down the Nerf guns and sell the parts, but I haven’t got into that… yet.
Unopened toys are always a must buy. A Kenner Strawberry Shortcake figure that has never been opened was truly a shock — surely someone out there is going to want this!
Finding a vintage Batman toy from 1966 at a local yard sale is something that I didn’t think would ever happen, but lightning struck this weekend (literally, and figuratively!). This small plastic milk cup was thrown in for free and is the one item I got this weekend that may never leave my collection. This may not be the best example of this cup out there, but I have now attached a story to it, and will keep it for a good long while.
Have the yard sales started up in your neck of the woods yet? Find anything good?
The Blogging from A-to-Z Challenge is coming to an end — just one more article to go!

Love me some yard sales. I used to go every Saturday with my Grandpa, when I was a kid.
One time, I even found a Batman yard sale. True story. Poor guy was having his first kid and decided to sell his Batman collection. I felt kinda bad for him but, if I was older, I probably would’ve bought more of his stuff lol
