As I sit here watching the “dry” ditch behind my house fill up, I’m finding it difficult to be enthusiastic about the League this week, plus Halloween is only two days away! So, the League officials have decided to send the workers home early and allow them time to fill those sacks, whether they’re sand bags or Halloween pillow cases.
I hope all my East Coast friends stay safe and dry, and to the rest of you, have a fantastic Halloween!

(Wondering what the heck this is all about? Weβre recruiting for this loose-knit, rag tag crew!Β Here are the details for joining The League.)

It’s actually a nice idea, a League break. I’m still trying to post once a day until Halloween, and struggling to meet my goal. Once October is over I’m totally going to revamp my posting schedule too. Be safe everyone!
Brian says
Yeah, October has been exhausting. I’ve never done a countdown where I posted daily, and it has been draining. Almost looking forward to Halloween being over. I don’t think I’ll commit myself to daily topical posts again unless I can plan better.
Dex (@Dex1138) says
This is only my 2nd year in the Halloween Countdown but I think this is great advice: If you can stockpile up to 10 posts in September, it allows you to slack during October and keeps you from burning out.
The Goodwill Geek says
Yeah, I tried my damndest to get writing ahead of time, but it just didn’t help me in the end. I think I need to plan a theme next year, much like many others did. I tired to be inspired by Goodwill purchases, and things in my collection, but it ended up being all over the place, and crazy. I like the King-Kong posts Brian, I thought they were extremely fitting, and so completely you!
Brian says
Thanks man! I have enjoyed doing the King Kong theme, but it’s been a challenge. Two more to go!
Dan says
Everyone on the Coast try to stay dry. Have a safe Halloween everyone. It’s good to break for a week. My brains hurt.

Dex is exactly right. I started the “daily posts for October” around 4 years ago and I start writing them during the summer. I probably wrote my first article for this Halloween back in April or May. Plus, I don’t post on Saturdays and Sundays, which helps. If you can stockpile up to 3 weeks before October starts, you are set. That’s what I had this month when Oct 1 rolled around. I still had to scramble, though, to finish the final week and a half. Plus, I still have to do some “on the fly” editing as the posts are published. It’s crazy but I still enjoy it.
I’ll probably be taking a sabbatical from the blog for the next two months to recover. Plus we’ll be recording multiple episodes of Nerd Lunch each week in November and I’m possibly going to get another podcast off the ground. More info on that soon. π

Your posts have required watching movies and reading entire books–I bet that took some planning! I set out to do KONGTOBER because I’ve been wanting to catalog the items from my collection and force myself to take some good pictures of them. Bonus: If my house floats away in Hurricane Sandy, I can submit my blog as proof for an insurance claim. π
A new podcast in the works, eh? Consider me intrigued–can’t wait to see/hear what you have brewing!

Podcast? Very interested!

Good call, Brian! As you know I’ve been absent this past week due to life throwing some curve balls at me, and then the hurricane on top of that. It’s too much. I’m trying to play catch-up with my blog and the Halloween Countdown today (so long as I have power!), so this is welcome news.
Brian says
Stay safe up there! I think you’re getting it worse than us here in VA, but man, that wind is whipping up outside!
Hobgoblin238 says
Yes everyone please be safe. I used to live in Manhatten and still have actor friends there.
Yelinna says
Wow, daily posts for an entire month, that’s killing!
Have a nice break to you all! π

Good luck to all affected by the weather back East. I don’t envy you! I’ll keep my earthquakes and high cost of living, thankyouverymuch.
Also, having done the Countdown a few times I must concur – scheduling posts ahead of time is a real sanity saver!
Brian says
Thanks Eric, but after the drubbing I received at your hands in the Madball Football League yesterday, I don’t think I’m speaking with you for a while. π
jen says
I was exhausted with the Countdown after three posts, so I totally get it. I couldn’t keep up with it and felt like a loser. =0
Brian says
You just go for quality over quantity Jen! π
kngfu says
My power is still out. I am sending this through carrier pigeon. I hope you get it.
Brian says
Ugh. Hang in there Mike!
Jamie (jannghi) says
I missed three days of the Halloween countdown, including yesterday because news of the hurricane put me out of it. I didn’t have a lot left to say anyway. I hope everyone on the East Coast is safe. And Happy Halloween everyone!
Classick says
Hey, hope everyone had a happy and safe Halloween! Also thoughts and prayers for my fellow East Coasters. We’re OK, no damage or injury but I know plenty people still recovering.
Will return next week to fulfill yet another League assignment– can’t wait!
Actually now might be a good time to catch up on some missed assignments… stay tuned?
Brian says
Glad to hear you made it through the storm Classick. Hang in there, it sounds like things are getting tense up there.
