Cool and Collected

Collecting pop culture toys, comics, and collectibles collections

This King Kong poster tells a story

Last night, this Belgian Congo King Kong poster sold at emovieposter.com with a final bid of $479.00 — you know it’s something special when the experts at emovieposter.com have never seen one before. There’s no telling how high the price may have reached if the poster was in better condition, but personally, I love it just the way it is. I can picture this poster being glued to the side of a movie theater, withstanding the harsh sun and maybe a few rain showers. After the movie leaves the theater, the poster is carefully peeled off the bricks by a kid who likes the picture of the great ape, and he takes it home to hang on his bedroom wall. Years later, he takes the poster down, folds it up and stores it in a box under his bed, and eventually, somehow, the poster finds its way to the States.

I’m a fan of old, rusty, crusty and dusty items.  Sometimes, items really need to be restored, but I would not want this poster to be touched. I’m sure a skilled restoration expert could restore it to its original vibrant colors and bright white paper, but I like it fine just the way it is.

        Hey Guys,
I actually own that poster, its probably one of my favorites in my collection. Brian, I know your gonna hate me for this but I do plan on having it restored haha. I would love to see what it looked like originally, and because I have never seen this particular poster before nor has anyone else from the research I done. I can keep you guys updated and provide before and after pics.

Adrian, I would love to see the “after” if you decide to get it restored. I’m glad to see it in the hands of someone who really appreciates it.
