Cool and Collected

Collecting pop culture toys, comics, and collectibles collections

There’s art and then there’s this…

planet of the apes crossing the delaware

“Planet of the Apes Crossing the Delaware.” Can you imagine how amazing the original painting of this image would look hanging in a gallery? I don’t know enough about this painting or the artist, other than it appeared in a 1974 issue of Smash Magazine. If anyone out there has any info, I’d love to know who painted this.

I have dreams of finding this painting in someone’s attic someday.

I had this poster way, way back when I was obsessed with the original Planet of the Apes movies. I still have my POTA comics and fondly recall the time I went to the Fox Theater in Atlanta and saw all 5 POTA movies back-to-back. I don’t recall where this poster came from and I have no idea what has happened to it. Caught me right in the nostalgia today! Well done.

Hi Brian — I grew up in Atlanta, too, but was too young to see these in the theater (just barely). I had this SMASH magazine and LOVED this poster/centerfold.

Hey Tom, I am from Atlanta as well! I found the apes MUCH later due to Polar lights.

I guess she was at Marvel then. Smash appears to have been a Marvel Comics publication. Thanks for the memory!
