This week’s League challenge is all about bootlegs and knockoffs, so I scoured my shelves for something that would fit the bill, and finding something was no easy task! I collect icons, tending to stick with mainstream products, and the world of bootleg toys is one that I have yet to really tap, but I did manage to find a couple of knockoff items such as this vintage Superman flyer.
There is a small metal hook at the top of the back side, where you would place a rubber band and let Supes fly through the air. Of course, this isn’t really Superman, is it? nope, this is some orange planet guy who rifled through Superman’s closet.
I really do like having this item in my Superman collection due to the fact that it is old, probably from the 50’s or 60’s, or maybe even earlier, and it is in great shape for being a “disposable” product. I can’t imagine that too many of these survived more than a few flights. the only markings on it is the word “Japan” and I don’t really know anything else about it, but I’m pretty sure DC didn’t license it!

Who cares if it’s a knock-off or bootleg toy….it looks vintage + cool! I’d have this displayed on my ceiling anytime!

I love stuff like that. Very cool!

Neat! He’s kinda like a Superman from one of DC’s Multiverse Earths. In the spirit of Earth-Two maybe he’s from Earth-K, the knockoff Earth!

It is so vintage that it is made in Japan, not China!!
Great for displaying 😀 😀 😀 😀

This is a cool item. It looks like it belongs in the DC universe. I love the whole look of it. I love that bootlegs/knock offs/whatever else has been going on since the dawn of time. This is why the world has collectors.
