Last week, the League had some great responses with some monstrous articles, so let’s keep with the Halloween theme this week (and maybe for the rest of the month!). This week’s challenge to the Pop Culture League is…
Zombies
The dead have arisen!
The League is always open to new members! Got a blog? Write a post in response to the weekly challenge, and you’ll be included. It’s that easy!
Once you put up a post on your site add a comment below with the URL. Try to incorporate at least three of your fellow League members’ links (but more would be great!) into the article you wrote, or you can also link to them on social media.
By cross-posting like this, we will help each other out by sending new readers to each other’s sites. Have fun!
(Wondering what the heck this is all about? We’re recruiting for this loose-knit, rag tag crew! Here are the details for contributing to The League.)

Bear with me as I ponder the zombie paradigm in entertainment and merchandising:

Shawn Smith-Ford says
Made me think, I have been considering zombies from a man vs. nature standpoint, but bringing it to man vs. self with zombies as the backdrop was fascinating.
Brian says
Agreed. It seems like zombies are the least of the problem in a lot of cases, especially in shows like the Walking Dead.
George (GI Jigsaw) says
Cool post. Yes, even with McFarlane’s Walking Dead figures, there are fewer and fewer zombie figures and more and more human characters.
Fong says
Thanks for the kind comments. I do think the zombie genre spotlighting man vs. self, as opposed to man vs. nature, allows for a more flexible plot lines. I think that is why there are so many zombie movies with such varied takes, from straight horror to comedy, from apocalyptic to sci-fi. Perhaps because of how diverse the genre is, that has an adverse effect on merchandising (WWE zombie figures are kind of a stretch there). While we may be at Peak Zombies in terms of entertainment, zombie fatigue doesn’t seem to have set in yet. So we are likely to see more zombie movies in the future. (I admit that I have not seen Pride and Prejudice + Zombies. I heard there’s a Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies, too. Just can’t keep up!)
