I’ve been a huge fan of Mondo for a while, especially their Alamo Drafthouse movie posters. If you don’t know Mondo, I advise you to head over to their site immediately and experience for yourself the amazing things they have created. Mondo has a devoted following due to their ability to create works of art based on pop culture classics such as Star Trek, Star Wars, Mad Max, Blade Runner — you name it, if it’s cool, Mondo has got it covered.
If you want to have a chance of getting one of their limited edition posters at the retail price, and not an inflated eBay price, you need to follow Mondo’s Twitter feed. They usually send out a tweet saying the posters are available, and then soon after, a follow up tweet will arrive telling you that the posters are sold out. You have to be ready to pounce as soon as that first tweet arrives. You can also follow them on Facebook to get a head’s up on upcoming products.
A couple of weeks ago, the Westworld poster was released and struck several of my collecting chords, and as soon as I saw it, I knew it would eventually be hanging on my walls. This particular poster was designed by Methane Studios, and is a 19″x32″ screen print. The print run was only 200, and it sold out pretty quickly (though not nearly as fast as the Star Wars posters).
The poster arrived in a sturdy cardboard tube with this excellent graphic on one end:
My crummy camera can not capture the vibrance of this print. Since it’s screen printed, the red is as red as red can be, and the textured background shows the layers of ink that were applied.
Each poster is signed and numbered:
The poster fits in pretty well, I think:
Mondo released a series of four Star Wars bounty hunter posters last week and another series will be released soon. It’s going to be tough to get them, since first dibs go to those who were able to order the first set, but that won’t prevent me from trying. Any other Mondo fans out there? Which posters are hanging on your walls?
