Marvel Third Eye Blacklight Posters

Marvel Third Eye posters have been on my list of Holy Grails for years, and I never dreamed I would find one in the wild. Last weekend, I found ten! These posters have a huge following and there are usually one or two available on any given day on eBay, but be prepared to pay over $200 each. I am still pinching myself to have found these.

If you dropped acid in the early 70’s there’s a good chance you had one of these posters hanging on your walls. Trust me when I say the photos do not do these posters justice. The colors are day-glo and so vibrant that you want to reach for your sunglasses, so flip on the blacklight, ease back in the beanbag chair, and nirvana is not far away.

Hake’s sold one of these Silver Surfer posters for $351.38 in their last auction.

“I’ll lie still… and silent… strip my mind of earthly thoughts…” — trippy!

marvel third eye poster blacklight submariner

marvel third eye poster blacklight thwoom

marvel third eye poster blacklight spiderman

marvel third eye poster blacklight daredevil

marvel third eye poster blacklight captain america falcon

The orange and black colors on this Captain America and Falcon poster are stunning!

marvel third eye poster blacklight black bolt

marvel third eye poster blacklight medusa

This Medusa poster is beautiful! This is the one I will be framing and putting up in the cave.

marvel third eye postcard blacklight display poster

In addition to the ten posters, I was thrilled to get this extremely rare display poster. It is a two-sided poster on heavy cardboard, and was used to advertise the Third Eye postcards. The artwork on this poster is pretty bad, but that kind of adds to the charm.

In addition to the Marvel posters and postcards, Third Eye produced puzzles as well, and finding any of these items is difficult (and expensive!). I believe there were 24 posters released in the series, so now I have 14 more to track down!

Thanks, Chris. I wish the photos could capture the true color on these posters, because they really are incredible to see in person.

I can’t say that I even knew these existed. You’re constantly teaching me new things. Great score!

Thanks, Will. The longer I do this, the more I learn what to look for. I’m sure there were plenty of high-value music posters in that guy’s collection, but I wouldn’t have known what I was looking at.

I know what you mean. 9 times out of 10, when I take pictures I feel I’m doing a disservice. And with something like DayGlo, it’s nearly impossible to completely get that same feel.

Neverthless, they all look fantastic! Absolutely love the Captain America Poster. Thanks for sharing these with us.

If you cover the walls of a man cave with all of these you might just go insane, though in the best way imaginable!

How big are these? They look GREAT. Coming from selling billboards…DayGlo is vivid and I can only imagine what these will look like framed. My favs are the C-Merica, Silver Surfer, and Thor ones, leaning toward the Thor. So cool. What a great find.

These posters are 21.5″x33″ The proportions may look a little off because I tried to “fix” the keystoning effect in Photoshop.

I called it only because I have had 3 at one time. Medusa, Black Bolt, Silver Surfer. I never knew they did a comic cover one. Great find

Yeah, I think I might have to frame Black Bolt too and hang him next to Medusa.

I am jealous! What a mind-blowing collection of groooovy posters. The black-light surrealism really fits for Dr Strange. I agree that the Medusa one is the star of the pack. The Namor poster is the weakest of the bunch in my opinion.

I love these posters!. When I was a kid, I inherited three of them from my brothers – Medusa, Cap with the “So far, so good”, and the FF flying through New York.

If you are still interested in finding these, I have a Dr. Strange 3rd Eye poster (the one with Eternity, not the one shown on your page) still wrapped in its original cellophane. It even still has the $3 price tag! I am selling all of my comics and movie items and would love to sell to someone who truly loves these posters.

I’m happy to know that there are people who love our ‘ The Third Eye, Inc. black light posters as much as we enjoyed publishing them, in the good-old-days…

We produced about 100 styles of graphics that ‘glow’ when exposed to long-wave ultra-violet (black) light. there were over 100 other graphic products as well.

The effect of black-light graphics is similar to that of stained glass art, with light flooding through The art is actually a light source..

The Internet is full of fakes. Many are small and not even printed with fluorescent ink.
    Beware!
A Genuine The Third Eye black light print is silk-screen printed on heavy acid-free art paper.

Thanks for commenting here Roberta. I always love to hear from the creators of the items I collect. Since I purchased this batch of posters, I have branched out to try and find more art by Third Eye. It is disheartening to see all the reprints on eBay, knowing that they can’t possibly come close to the real thing.

[…] And fortunately, King Kirby is a universal language, and Comolo speaks Kirby fluently. The Italian artist recreates many Kirby covers and scenes as paintings, using a specific palate that utilizes cooler color tones and hues. It might be a stretch to some, but his cosmic paintings often remind me of those wild blacklight posters published in 1971 by a long defunct company called Third Eye. […]
