Mitch M. has been my favorite vendor at the DC Big Flea and other local toy shows for a while, and he has been enjoying my KONGTOBER posts so much that he wanted to show off some of his own King Kong collection. Check out these beauties…
Plush (vinyl face) Kong made in 1991 by Multi Toys.
Lunchbox with thermos. (More on this one later this month!)
Rare 1971 1-sheet poster for the Janus Films re-release of the original King Kong – adding back in the long edited scene of Kong removing Fay Wray’s clothing. (This poster needs to find its way into my collection!)
Now this last item obviously isn’t King Kong-related, but it is possibly the best of the bunch. Back in 2003, Target stores had these large reproductions of vintage Ben Cooper masks hanging in their stores to promote Halloween. These masks are 4 feet tall and look incredible hanging on the wall. I unsuccessfully tried to get one of these from my local Targets–I guess you need to know someone!
Thanks Mitch for sharing these photos, and I will be looking for that King Kong poster at the next Big Flea!
Wow, what other mask reproductions did Target have? That is amazing.
Love that metal Kong lunchbox with the awesome poster art.
Here’s a link that shows four of the large Target masks: http://www.universalmonsterarmy.com/forum/index.php?topic=4807.0
Frankenstein, scary clown, fireman, and princess. I’m not sure if there were more or if that’s the full set.
OMG! OMG! That 1-sheet poster! Love it.
Isn’t that a great image! Kudos to the art director for going a totally different direction on that one!
Bewbs make everything better.
Seconded.
