Wow! That pretty much sums it up for me so far. I am so thrilled with the amount of support, both financial and emotional, that has been shown since the Cool & Collected Magazine’s Kickstarter campaign began 15 days ago.
We had a strong, strong start, and the first few days were a whirlwind. We were halfway to the goal after just three days! As you would expect, things slowed down after the initial push, but people are still finding out about the campaign and kicking in whatever they can.
I knew from the start that this was not going to succeed if we didn’t get enough advertising dollars — It’s hard to sell $6,000 worth of magazines without a major distributor! Well, we managed to sell some of those advertising spaces — a LOT of them! The back cover ad sold on the first day, and soon after, one of the inside covers sold. A full page ad has been secured and four companies have signed on for 1/3-page ads. There are options for any budget — over half a dozen marketplace ads have been taken. All of these advertisers are companies you will certainly be familiar with when you see the publication. I’d love to mention them here individually, but I’m not sure of the proper protocol in doing so. I doubt anyone would mind a free plug, but I should probably ask first.
The collecting community has been AMAZING. To name a few, Howie Decker has been beating the bushes, trying to drum up advertisers, and Michael L. took it upon herself to make up some flyers and distributed them at local comic shops in her hometown! Richard D. ran into Toy Hunter’s Jordan Hembrough at NYCC and he had some very kind words about the magazine, hoping for its success — I’ll take that as an unofficial endorsement! (Jordan had tweeted about the Kickstarter campaign earlier this month.) The sheer volume of tweets and Facebook posts that have been flooding the interwebs is surely starting to get on a few people’s nerves, but keep them coming! Plenty of awesome collectors have featured the magazine’s Kickstarter campaign on their websites, including:
- The Surfing Pizza
- Goodwill Hunting 4 Geeks
- DASH Collector Action Figures
- About.com — Action Figures
- Kenner Collector
- Battle Grip
- Top Hat Sasquatch
- Poe Ghostal
- Under Scoop Fire
- Batcave Toy Room
- and more!
This is the kind of grassroots marketing that is really going to make the magazine become a reality.
We’re in the home stretch now, with 15 days to go. To date, the Kickstarter campaign has raised $4,966.00 of the $6,000 goal. I am optimistic that this campaign will reach the goal, but I still need some help. If you run a business geared towards collectors, or know someone who does, please tell them about this project.
The magazine is jam packed with articles written by collectors and bloggers, and you can bet when it hits the street, there is going to be secondary social media tsunami when all of us want to tell our friends about the cool magazine we helped to build. This is definitely something you and your company will want to be a part of, so please consider backing the magazine’s Kickstarter campaign.
And for those of you who have already contributed, all I can say is..
THANK YOU!
