Regular visitors to this site may be getting tired of me whipping out my Kong so often, but you’re just going to have to deal with it, and really, did you honestly think I had another idea in mind for the letter “K” in the Blogging from A to Z Challenge?
The 1976 King Kong movie is one of my earliest childhood memories, which is probably why I have such an unexplainable fondness for the big guy to this day. I was only 6 or 7 years old and this movie was the “forbidden fruit” that opened my eyes to grown up things. My babysitter had let my brother and I watch it one night — my parents may have been lax, but they certainly would not have allowed us to watch this movie at that age. I was enthralled by the special effects, and my pre-pubescent emotions ran wild with fear and excitement, and ended with the deepest sorrow. To this day, I still get emotional at the end of the movie, no matter what version I’m watching.
I have a fair number of King Kong items, and filled a whole month’s worth of articles about those items a few years back with my KONGTOBER challenge. Many of those items are stored out of view, but this Mexican lobby card occupies the prime viewing location in my cave. I have some other large posters, but don’t have the room for them on the walls, so for now, this lobby card does the job just fine.
I’ve almost reached the halfway point of the Blogging from A-to-Z Challenge, but I have no idea what to do for “L.” Any ideas?

Awesome collection. Love the puzzle canisters.
I’ve never seen any of the Kong movies in full….just bits and pieces. I will have to remedy that situation.

Seriously though, which film is your favorite? I’ve seen a few of them but, the 1933 version will always be my favorite. My mom is an old movie buff so, that’s what we were watching when my and my brothers were little.

The 1933 version always amazes me when I think about what they achieved with the technology of that time period — and it is brutal! The Peter Jackson movie hits me hardest in the emotional aspect (but those huge bugs always turn me off!). But, the 1976 version is probably my favorite only because of the memories it brings up from my childhood. The other movies featuring Kong are always fun, and you know I’m freaking about the upcoming Skull Island movie that’s in the works! It’s a tough call, but I have to go with Dino De Laurentiis’ 1976 movie.

Yeah, I saw the Peter Jackson one in the theaters and did not care for the bugs.
