I just hit a milestone on Twitter and attained the 1,000 follower mark. While that number might not sound that high to some, I consider a bit of validation that when I talk about vintage toys, posters, and memorabilia, there are people out there that actually care to listen.
As a way to mark this milestone, I am going to give away five different “pop culture packages” as a way of showing my thanks. This should be a fun way to spread the pop culture karma. Want to know what’s up for grabs? Check this out…
Vintage 80’s ALF plush doll. You’ll definitely want to add this guy to your collection before the new movie is released and the tsunami of ALF nostalgia sends the price of these dolls goes through the roof.
Teefury 80’s Toy Collector T-shirt.Β This shirt is XL and I promise I never wore it!
Old comic books. Not really collectible copies, but fun to read!
Vintage Spaceman. This guy is battle-worn but still stands tall and proud.
80’s Nostalgia Bomb. I guarantee this package will take you back to the land of scratch ‘n sniff.
How to win
All you have to do to win one of the Pop Culture Packages is to be a follower of mine on Twitter, and enter a comment below with the name of your favorite pop culture character. Make sure you enter the email address field, so I can contact you. U.S. addresses only, unless you want to pay for the shipping. Starting on August 22, 2012, I’ll pick one random winner at a time and let that person choose the package he/she wants, then will pick the next winner, etc. Your chances of getting one of these is probably really, really good, so go ahead and add a comment below. Thanks everyone!
THIS CONTEST IS NOW OVER. Thanks everyone!
Michael May says
Great contest and congrats on the milestone!
Choosing one, favorite pop culture character is a difficult choice, but I’ll go with Han Solo.
Robert Kristoffersen says
As I search the vastness of the pop culture the one character I keep coming back to is Captain Malcolm Reynolds. Granted, he wants his independence and will stop at nothing to protect his crew, he’s not above killing anybody that gets in his way. He’s a better Han Solo, with more depth. He’s the only reason I went out of my way to purchase ‘Firefly’ on Blu-Ray!

My favorite pop culture icon is of course, Spider-Man. Batman is right behind Spidey. I would say Bats is 1A.
Ponderiss ~ Brenda says
Congrats on your milestone! My favorite pop culture character is Spock from Star Trek, TOS. I spent an entire summer, when I was 8 or 9, saying “illogical” a lot and trying to not show emotions.
Ron says
Wow 1000 followers is outstanding, congrats! My favorite pop culture character, that’s tough, so many, if I have to pick one, I’d go with the Ludwig Von Drake.
Jason says
Brian, you know that I just had to create a Twitter account just to be in this contest? And you were the first person I started to follow(out of 2 total). I can never turn down the chance to be in a contest.
My favorite pop culture character would have to be Donatello(TMNT), by just a smidge.
Sleepyheadedmom says

Congrats!! And really, thanks for the LoeB. I’ve met (and keep meeting) so many cool people through this site.
I think I have to go with the Creature from the Black Lagoon!
I had some Spacemen that looked similar to this guy but they were cast in white, red, black and maybe one other color. Do they have a name?
Brian says
Thanks Dex. I’m pretty sure that guy is an Archer spaceman from the 50s, but several companies used the same molds.
Dex (@Dex1138) says
Yeah I know mine would have been new in the 70s
jboypacman says
Congrats Brian! And i shall pass as am not on Twitter so good luck to all that enter. : )
The Goodwill Geek says
All right, I actually just made myself a Twitter account so I could enter this contest. I hope to love the Twitter lifestyle, and following you on there. My FAVORITE pop culture character?
I would HAVE to go with Scooby Doo!!! He and the gang have been old favorites since I was a kid. That was hard. Sort of like picking your favorite kid. I might have also gone with the Cookie Monster, or Slimer, or Casey Jones or Wolfbreath the Madball, or… GRAH!!!
Scooby Doo! Scooby Doo can be the only one! (I even made a different pop-culture REFERENCE when I made my pick!!!)
scott says
Does Voltron count?
roadsidewonders says
Congratulations, Brian! I always smile when I see your icon in my Twitter feed and you know that I love your blog to pieces π Holy Moley … I see Duran Duran ephemera peeking out of the 80?s Nostalgia Bomb.
My favorite pop culture character? Hmmmm, it’s tough to decide between the Bionic Woman and The Tick.
Oh, okay, SPOON!!!!
Brian says

John “Hannibal” Smith
Congrats on 1,000 followers.
Stacey Rader says
Congrats on 1000! I love the community that gathers here, especially the league. If I have to pick a fave, it has to be Pee-Wee Herman. He showed us that being young at heart is cool, and his killer design sense fostered a generation’s love of kitsch.
The Goodwill Geek says
THAAAAAT’s where I got that from! I always just assumed it was Ray Bradbury’s office from the beginning of Ray Bradbury presents…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIxWOsvYInI
but it’s all so clear to me now. Thank Pee-Wee!
Stacey Rader says
I’d forgotten about that opening sequence. He’s definitely a contender, but I gotta give it up to Mr. Herman. I miss both shows.
John says
Congratulations on the milestone. That’s awesome. Of course of I am going to pick Batman and as an alternative Boba Fett.
christopher tupa says
Awesome stuff! And a great way to celebrate the milestone! Huckleberry Hound has always been my fave but the 80s introduced so many wonderful characters its hard to pick one but I’ll stick with the ole’ Hound Dog himself. Thanks Brian!
DJ Dub Floyd says
Congrats on everything. Absolutely love the site and just started following you guys on Twitter. I am a DJ who is sucker for Music, Art and Pop Culture…. I am a GEEK of Nature! My fave Pop Culture character would have to be Leonardo from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
shezcrafti says
*high three* for Ninja Turtles!
DJ Dub Floyd says
Right On! Your site rocks by way! Just followed you on twitter!
Kevin Hellions says
I’m staying out of the contest but yay for 1000 followers. And these are awesome give aways. Hmmm…. Maybe I should change my mind. No no, give the, to someone else. Its cool. If there is anything you do, its continue to discover cool things.
brian [also?] says
Krang.
i’ve decided that the alien conqueror from Dimension X is my totem. and besides, he was the first TMNT action figure i owned as a kid.
or maybe Dracula from the Monster Squad. he was a stone-cold killer in a goofy costume and he wasn’t afraid to call a little girl a bitch.
bogus.
Austin Baroudi says
Darth Vader for sure!
FijiMermaid says
The Predator of course! Congratulations on getting to 1000 followers. You do know you are now part of an elite group of twitter folk. We send blood via UPS to one another and become blood brothers and sisters. Expect a crudely duct taped up sandwich baggie in the mail with some mermaid blood.
Brian says
I’ll be sure to let the wife know. Thanks Fiji! π
Ronald O. says
Congratulations on your 1000th follower milestone! My favorite pop culture character? ..thats really a tough one, as I have a few that rank in my top five! But I’m going with Steve Austin, ‘The Six Million Dollar Man’! As a matter of fact, this past year, I purchased the Complete DVD Box set of ‘The Six Million Dollar Man’ ! π
Brian says
You’re a lucky man. That DVD set is pricey! π
Jason aka SockofFleagulls says
Congrats on the milestone! Favorite pop culture character is a tough one for me. So many to choose from…I’ll go a little out of the ordinary and say the world’s fastest talker John Moschitta Jr. He was everywhere in the 80s and early 90s from Transformers: The Movie to Micro Machines ads and everywhere in between!
Kal says
You can see my line-up here.
