My mail man truly is Santa Claus, but instead of prettily wrapped boxes with bows, he brings me crushed, wet cardboard boxes with an inch of packing tape. I don’t mind though. Like my momma always said… it’s what’s on the inside that counts. See, mom, I was listening!
Today this beautiful Jumbo Shogun Warrior Raydeen figure joined the family. I had one of these when I was a kid and have been hunting for a bargain for years. I finally found one on eBay for just $25! Sure, he has some {ahem} issues, such as a missing hand, but I don’t really mind.
These Shogun Warriors are massive. To appreciate the size of this guy, check him out next to Boba Fett, who looks downright puny.
Any other Shogun Warrior fans or collectors out there? What’s in your collection?
Van says
Oh my! He looks EXACTLY like the one I was going to buy at the flea market. He might have been sold by the same guy for all I know, he has the same missing hand and all!
He is absolutely beautiful! Next time I see Raydeen, he’ll be mine, lead paint, missing limbs, and all. He’s gorgeous, enormous, and VERY fun to photograph.

Van- You never know, it might be the same one you saw! I’m always amused by seeing items in local antique stores that I saw at a yard sale the previous weekend.

I love these Shogun Warriors. Had a couple as a kid and can’t count the times they utterly destroyed my action figure armies. Good time.
PS: How can i post an avatar?
Brian says
Frank- I think if you use gravatar.com, the avatar is automatic on this site and most others. Otherwise,

Looks great!
These things really are amazing. We just got a Jumbo Gaiking and Mazinga in this past week and I can’t believe what amazing toys they were, especially for their time.
I always wondered about the playability of these things, though. Given their size, did kids actually play with these much when they came out, or were they more display pieces?
Brian says
From the condition I’ve seen most of these Shogun Warriors, I think it’s safe to say they got plenty of play! Given their size, it’s amazing to me that any of them survived at all. I think the fact that the plastic is kind of soft and rubber-like, these toys were able to make it out of the 70’s alive. If they were hard plastic, or metal, finding one in good shape would be impossible.
A Gaiking and a Mazinga you say? Will we be seeing those up for bid at http://www.thebigtoyauction.com soon???
Christopher Noon says
Probably not right away. A consignor just brought these to us right before we left for Botcon, so I haven’t really even gotten a chance to look them over or anything yet.
Most likely, we’ll put them in with our other robot items for our Robo-Madness sale.
I haven’t gotten a chance to spend much time with them yet, but they’re pretty neat pieces up close, nonetheless.

I swear I am bidding on the same shoguns and you sir are winning. Congrats on this wicked find.
Brian says
Ha! Not this time, Matt! I was the only bidder, probably because the seller didn’t accept Paypal.
