The current Hake’s auction has tons of great stuff, but while browsing through the catalog, I kept being drawn to these amazing custom framed pieces of comic art. Sure, the art itself is incredible, but the frames take it to a whole new level. The collage work done on the frames is the work of artist Dan Makara, who uses clippings of comics along with hand-colored elements and 3-d objects. I hate to think that any vintage comics were used in the process, but I’ll just tell myself that they were beater copies saved from the trash can. Check ’em out…
These things are friggin’ rad! Now, you’ll have to excuse me while I run out to the craft store for a bucket of Mod Podge.
You can see detailed images of all of these items and a bunch more over at Hake’s website.

I think they’re too busy and detract from the art itself.

You had me at Mod Podge! : )

It hurts my soul to think that those might be real Buster Brown strips decoupaged to the frame. I really hope they are just printouts.

Wow – love the frame with the toy soldiers. Very cool.

I would rather use printouts and hodge podge away. It would pain me to use vintage comics
