Cool and Collected

Collecting pop culture toys, comics, and collectibles collections

A visit to the arcade graveyard

Have you ever wondered what ever happened to all those arcade cabinets you used to play in your local pizza parlor and bowling alley? Well, today I found out where they end up.

The Coinopwarehouse in Hagerstown Maryland has been salvaging arcade games and pinball machines from businesses and homes across the country. As soon as a game comes off the truck, it is usually snatched up by a collector or Bar-cade owner across the country and beyond through their Facebook page or online sales.

There are hundreds of machines lined up in mostly tidy rows. The inventory is constantly changing as tractor trailers deliver truckloads of games several times a week.

Unfortunately, today I was just window shopping as my budget and available space prohibited me from buying anything, but I will definitely think about setting up an “arcade fund jar” and make the trip again in the near future.

If arcade games are your thing, and you happen to be in the area, contact the guys at Coinopwarehouse and they will let you browse through their warehouses (yes, that is plural), and maybe you’ll find a new addition for your home arcade.
