When I was a kid, these guys were my favorites.
Saturday mornings saw the couch cushions transformed into a super secret Cobra lair.
Zartan was always lurking nearby.

The Joes were my real first toy “love”. Star Wars was just a gateway toy for me, kinda prepared me for the 3 3/4 format til 1982 when they were released. Really dig the B&W pictures, looks great !!
Brian says
Thanks Michael! I’m with you–Star Wars started it all, but the Joes got all my attention.

I have more RAH GI Joes now then when I was a kid. I did have the Adventure team and Super Joe though.

It’s been a long time since G.I. Joe figures were that big in my fists. Thanks for the great photos and for bringing back some good memories.

You know, this makes me wonder, how many Joes in your current collection have you had since childhood? I have zero left from when I was growing up. I either lost most of them in the yard after a days long battle, or after several moves they just eventually got misplaced.
If I was to collect GI Joes again, I would have to start from scratch. Micro Machines on the other hand…
Brian says
That’s an easy one for me to answer — zero. My best friend (at the time) and I had a system–we put all our GI Joes and Masters of the Universe figures in a big box, combining them, and then the box would trade hands every week or so. We did the same with our comic books. As we got older and less interested in the toys and comics, the boxes stopped circulating, and I ended up with the comics. At the time, it was not a big deal at all, but 20 years later, I want that box back! 😉
Jon says
Interesting system. Despite my carelessness at times, I was very protective of my toys (read selfish) and rarely let my Joes fall into the hands of other grubby neighborhood children. I didn’t trust them. If they were to be lost, it would be me doing the losing (which I did quite well mind you). My Micro Machines I took good care of for some reason, and still have every one of them which I intend to pass on to my son.
Did you at least get a few good issues out of that box??
Brian says
Not really. We bought comics and actually read them, so even if they were good issues, they would have been pretty shabby after our treatment.
Glad to hear you held on to something, I’m sure your son will enjoy the Micro Machines!
Jon says
Yeah, all this talk makes me wish I hadn’t actually enjoyed my childhood toys and just left them all in the boxes for when I grew up…what were we thinking?
Brian says
Indeed. Stupid kids. 😉
