Jamie Moakes is a man on a mission. He has set himself upon a Quixotic quest to obtain as many Ram-Man action figures as his bank roll will allow, thus cornering the market on the figure and driving up their value to insane numbers. His tongue in cheek crusade titled “You Will Be Rare” follows his journey, and his blog tells the story behind each Ram-Man that he adds to his collection.
As a collector, I’m intrigued at the thought of whether it would be possible to affect the cost of a collectible by buying up as many as you can. If it was, me, I’d buy up as many Aurora King Kong models as I could find (I love those guys!). Waitaminit, wasn’t this the plot for Trading Places?
To support the ongoing project costs Jamie will be cycling to Edinburgh from Colchester. He is inviting those who wish to sponsor him to contact him via jamiemoakes.com and help him become master of his own financial universe.
Jamie, I salute you as you tilt at those windmills!
Of all the figures to artificially make rare, why would you choose the crappy one no one wants anyway? I’m thinking all MOTU fans are collectively thinking “THANK YOU” as he buys up every Ram-Man.
HaHaHa! There are a ton of these out there, but maybe he’ll have a giant bonfire to make them even more rare. Who knows, maybe in a few years you and I will wish we could afford that awesome vintage Ram-Man figure. 😉
I always liked Ram-Man. I hope he doesn’t make them rare.
By my count, there are currently over 120 of these available right now on eBay. This could take a while.
That’s very funny, now I’m inspired to do the same thing with “Where’s Waldo?” dolls. That will create a rarity and an irony all at once!
LOL Now that I think about it, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Waldo doll!
That’s because he’s hiding behind the lifeguard stand next to the striped tents at the beach. Oops! Spoilers!
I follow this guy on twitter lol.
Bizarre.
Glad I found my Ram-Man at Goodwill before the market dried up.
Oddly enough I have been collecting ram man also.
