Collecting pop culture toys, comics, and collectibles collections

Yard Sale Haul — GI Joe, Star Wars and other pop culture goodies

We set out on Saturday morning not expecting much since the yard sales were few and far between, but it turned out to be a fairly epic haul of pop culture goodies. We only hit 7-8 yard sales but somehow managed to fill the back of the swagger wagon. Check it out…

yard sale finds - collection of vintage toys

We found so many fun things this weekend. Two brand new sets of Williams Sonoma Star Wars cookie cutters for $4, and a bunch of small toys.

My wife has learned not to question what I buy (too often) but she was wondering why I was carrying around a big doll house, to which I replied “That’s no doll house! That’s the Ghostbusters fire house!” No accessories, included, but it’s still pretty sweet for $2.

My 6-year-old was thrilled when dear old dad found a huge collection of Pokémon cards. There were probably 800+ cards and a bunch of vinyl figures for $20. As someone who is regularly coerced into buying packs of those cards at Target for $5, I’m hoping this stack will save my wallet from that pain in the future.

Other fun finds were a Simpsons Clue game, which is fairly collectible, a large Donkey Kong plush, some fun LPs, and a He-Man Roton vehicle, which emits a loud clicking sound that my kids love.

I also made another vintage GI Joe score. I don’t know why, but these things keep finding me. I’ve learned that wives all over Northern Virginia have decreed that their husbands need to clear out the garage, and the first thing to go is the large box of GI Joe toys. Here’s what $20 got me this time…

GI Joe Collection - huge lot of action figures and vehicles

That little blue guy in the lower left is actually pretty rare, so it was fun finding him in the pile. Someone on eBay is asking $90 for that Blue SNAKE Armor and that’s with a missing arm (mine’s just missing the back of a leg). So, it looks like I’ll be able to make a few bucks on this lot.

Speaking of which, I finally got moving on the Cool & Collected eCRATER store. I’ve started with some GI Joe figures, but  plan to add a ton of stuff. Check it out and let me know what you think so far.

Another fun find this weekend was a huge collection of vintage Playmobil toys for $30. This came in five large bags overflowing with the tiniest accessories. I’m not sure if these are going to be a good resell or not, but the kids will get to play with them for a while first, so it will be worth it in the end.

So, it was a surprisingly fun day at the yard sales here in Virginia this weekend. Anyone else make a good score?

I’m so jealous! I need the Blue Snake. It’s actually on ef the FEW pieces I still have to collect. Do me a favor. Take a quick look at the Cobra Rattler and see if the gun at the front tip of the plane is intact. Also, I can’t tell the pics are too small. Does it have a turret?

Hey Russ! That Rattler is in really rough shape and I plan to part out what’s left of it. Unfortunately the front gun and the turret are missing on this one.

I was pretty excited when I saw pieces of that SNAKE Armor in the pile of parts. I just wish that one leg piece was there!

Nice score on the Ghostbusters firehouse!! I had a decent haul this past weekend, but never on the scale of what you come home with. It’s posted over at my blog as always. Let me know what you think.

Oh! Did the package I sent you arrive yet?

I didn’t score big this weekend, so I’m primed for some early Saturday hunting next weekend. LOVING all your finds, especially the Ghost Busters fire house! Great eye, from what I see if does look like a doll house and I might have passed over that.

I can’t fathom how you can continue to collect everything without your home becoming chaotic. I have just a little apartment and my closets are already full, so I have to be so careful 😉

Hi Van- I think I’m going to put together a post that shows the “after” — what these hauls look like after I sort through them and organize them. There really is a method to the madness but after days like this one, it can get a bit overwhelming. 😉

As usual the Yard Sale Gods smile upon you. Ghostbusters firehouse! You’re keeping that, aren’t you? C&C store is looking pretty rad by the way.

Thanks, Jeremy. I’ll enjoy the firehouse for a little while but it will eventually go up for sale. I don’t really have much from the Real Ghostbusters line, so it will sit there kind of empty (plus it takes up a lot of shelf!).

Hey, someone recognized the Blip! I remember playing with games like this when I was a kid, so I figured the memory was worth a buck.
