Yesterday, our neighborhood held its annual community-wide yard sale, so we didn’t have far to roam to find the goods. Unfortunately, there weren’t many goods to be found. I have always made a “mega score” at this neighborhood sale, but yesterday I got stumped. Sure, there were some fun finds, but nothing too spectacular…
A bunch of Bakugans for a quarter will always come home with me, and I knew that Pez dispensers with a corporate logo on them were fairly collectible, so that Geico gecko was also bought for a quarter. I have no idea what that Transformer is, but the G.I. Joe Firebat with the figure for another twenty five cents was a great find. That Firebat will sell for an easy $10 on eBay. How do you like that ROI, all you Facebook IPO sheep!
Paid: $1.00
Value: $20.00
You can never have enough dinosaurs. That Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Technodrome playset was another fun find in a big box of toys, and I also found a another complete model kit, which should be easy to resell.
Paid: $3.00
Value: $22.00
I have a “guy.” His garage is always filled with collectibles, so I seek him out on these yard sale days. I have bought some pretty great stuff off him in the past, and this year, he had a bunch of coins and medals for sale. Unfortunately, since he’s a collector, he knows what eBay is, and he knows exactly what his items are worth, but I was able to get these two Bicentennial Commemorative coins from him for $5.00. Done deal.
Paid: $5.00
Value: $20.00
Okay, I’ll admit I had to hide this purchase from the wife. Think Chia pets are tacky? Of course they are, that’s what makes them so great. And as time goes by, these things get broken and thrown away, so finding one in its box is a no-brainer for a buck (for me at least!). You think I’m crazy? Check out what a Chia Mr. T goes for on eBay.
Paid: $1.00
Value: $5.00-countless millions
This little pencil pouch is possibly my favorite find of the day. I love small, cheap items that remind you of a time period, and this certainly fits that bill. Pencil pouches were all the rage back in the 80’s and this one has the iconic Ghostbusters logo slapped on it–it’s just a thing of beauty.
Paid: $0.25
Value: Not for sale!
Remember back in the 80’s when you were the dungeon master and kept a pencil pouch clipped in your Trapper Keeper? Well, I found it! Not only was this pouch filled with D&D dice, but it also still had the pencil and protractor you used to make all those dungeon maps. You might want to talk with your dad though, because in addition to selling me this dice bag, he also tried to sell me his VHS Playboy Playmates collection. Alas, I don’t own a VCR anymore.
Paid: $0.25
Value: Memories
The biggest value score of the day had to be this Stretch Screamers Wolfman toy, still sealed in its original box. The box is a little shelf worn and has some slight tearing at the fold, but the figure is minty mint. There are lot of monster collectors out there, so I would never pass up a big toy like this one.
Paid: $3.00
Value: $50.00
Hey look! More pogs! I fear this may now become an obsession.
Paid: $3.00
Value: $3.00
So, that’s a wrap. I’m not sure if next weekend will be worthwhile since it’s Memorial Day, but if there’s a sale out there, I’ll find it! Anyone else discover any treasure this past weekend? I know the world’s longest yard sale was this weekend, and I am extremely jealous of anyone within striking distance of it. If you went, what did you get?!

Though I was successful this weekend at the hwy 11 yardsale, your eye still wins for finding the best buys. My stuff is pretty much all to go onto my table at shows, but I do spend a little too much from time to time. However I did buy 7 boxes of comics most of which will be distributed down into dollar an 25 cent boxes, which over time will turn quite a proffit.

Hey, that Hwy 11 yard sale is a week-long event right? The bargains will be on the last day! i almost never come across comic books at yard sales. I wonder where they are all hiding.
Ashley says
It’s a 4 day event Thursday through sunday. Actually I did go out on sunday and all of the vendors seemed to close down. but I got some GREAT deals!
Dex (@Dex1138) says
I’d be afraid of trying to stretch that Wolfman after so many years but awesome find!
Brian says
I don’t know, he looks brand new. Maybe the rubber has deteriorated but it sure doesn’t look like it. I’m sure it’s much more durable than the Stretch Armstrongs we had as kids. I tore several of those guys to pieces.

Man none and i mean none of our yard sales every have anything good like what you are showing here so congrats on them all. : )
Brian says
Keep looking, John! the diamond in the rough is out there just waiting to be found. Trust me, it’s in an old wet cardboard box under a table stacked high with beanie babies. 😉
jboypacman says
Thanks Brian and i shall keep the hunt going. : )

My neighborhood yard sale is in 2 weeks. I will have my customary table, where all the locals ask the same question, “Why do you have so many boys toys for sale when you only have daughters?”.
Brian says
Ha! One of these days, we’re going to hold a MEGA yard sale filled with toys and I’m sure the neighbors will think much less of me after that. 😉
The Pizza says
love the gb pencil case. I bought Castle Grayskull loose for $15, not exactly a steal but not bad. I also found a Go Bot and a die cast Voltron figure
Brian says
Sounds like a great outing!

I had just said on Twitter, “I wonder if Brian went to any yard sales this weekend”. And then, boom, here’s your post.
Insane finds. I need to start looking a little harder. Although there is a town wide yard sale in a parking garage next month.
Brian says
Good luck! I’ve been having good luck at those mini-flea market type of sales lately.
Van says
Soooo much pop culture goodness. I love it all. By now you could open your own museum of nostalgic goodies. Charge admission, people will make pilgrimages world wide to come visit 😉
Brian says
Sadly, I probably could. I need to sell some of this stuff! Who’s buying??? 😀
ClaymationWerewolf says
That stretch Wolfman is AMAZING!!!! I need to start arriving at your yard sales about 15 minutes before you do. Also I might have to inquire about taking some of these pogs off your hands. My brother made my collection disappear and I’m left with nothing. Nothing!!
Brian says
I’m sure we could come to an agreement. 😉
