A community sale took place just down the road from me on Saturday morning, so I ran out for some quick hunting before I had to take my son to his soccer game. I didn’t find much, but what I did find was precious. Check this out…
At the first sale, the homeowner was just getting set up and didn’t have a lot out on the lawn yet, so I asked if she had any “boys toys” still in the garage. She didn’t think she had much, BUT she did have some Lord of the Rings figures if I was interested in seeing them. I was. I got a big plastic carrying case filled with Games Workshop wargaming miniature figures for $30. The case and the foam inserts are probably worth $30 alone. There are more than 160 figures–most of them are plastic but maybe a quarter of them are metal. I think I’ll be able to flip these for at least $80 on eBay and then sell the case in a separate auction.
At the same sale, I got these cute little guys. They’re in great shape and will certainly make an appearance in next month’s Countdown to Halloween. Of course, the best part is I got them for free with the LOTR miniatures!
At a different sale, there was a guy with a dozen long boxes of comics out on the lawn with all the comics for a dollar each–he wasn’t selling anything. He also had boxes and boxes of Magic the Gathering, Robotech, and Dr. Who trading cards. This guy was a collector, and I knew I wasn’t going to get any deals from him, but I did buy a small binder of Marvel trading cards for $20–basically what it’s worth–because it was really cool. It contains full sets of Silver Surfer prism cards and Marvel Masterpiece cards, including several chase cards.
Not a bad hour of treasure hunting–anybody else find anything good this weekend?

I really wanted to, but work last week burned me out. I hit some thrift stores, but completely missed out on sales. Let me know if you’re looking to get rid of those cards. I LOVE holograms and prismatic cards
Brian says
We might need to make a trade because you found some great stuff last weekend. 😉
Kevin Hellions says
I’m a bit curious about that Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant. Look like cake topper size.
Brian says
Ha! Are you looking for something to top your wedding cake? Which one of you is Andre? 😉
Those little PVC figures are pretty grungy. They are marked 1990 Titan Sports by Applause, and they need a good scrubbing.
Kevin Hellions says
The cake topper has actually been an issue. It may shock you to hear that Black Canary and Green Arrow aren’t in the public eye enough to be available in cake top size. But I think an excellent way to ensure no wedding would be to compare her to a giant or a very bald and mustached muscleman.

I found a Fisher Price Little People Sesame Street playset for $3. It was just the shell, but I figure I can get a lot of photo mileage out of it if I never find any of the figures or accessories. I also found the comic adaptations of Little Shop of Horrors and House II for a quarter each.
Brian says
Excellent! Those vintage FP toys are eBay gold.
Dex (@Dex1138) says
There is definitely something wrong with my area of the country. I never find good stuff like this.
The Goodwill Geek says
I honestly think I’m more excited about the Gremlins and Munster figurines than anything you featured. Those Universal Monster Beanies are kick-ass though!
Brian says
I need to see if those PVC figures can be cleaned, because they are filthy. Not sure if the owner was a smoker or what but he had a big box of figures and they were all pretty nasty.
jboypacman says
Very nice Brian! Congrats and i had a pretty good weekend myself picking up some Marvel’s The Thing, G.I. Joe Zaranna and Mighty Crusaders Shield action figures. But my biggest score was(and most pricey)was a boxed MASK Rhino. : )
Brian says
I saw that RHINO you got–very nice. You win the weekend! 😉
Stacey Rader says
Nice score! I picked up a Ghoul figure, too. (I saw your re-blog about him). I don’t know anything about the comics line, but he’s a very cool addition to my monster shelf.
jboypacman says
Yeah the Ghoul is cool!
Will West says
Kevin, about how tall does a cake ripper need to be? We’re having that issue, but our main cake is only a 2-tier deal. I ask because Mattel made the wildly unpopular Infinite Heroes 4″ scale figures to initially compete with Hasbro’s Marvel Universe line. Though the line was shortlived, they managed to make a Black Canary and Green Arrow. In fact, I have the GA, which I’d be more than willing to donate to the cause, but you’ll need to track down Canary.
Reis O'Brien says
DEM MUNSTERS!
Brian says
I’m seriously beginning to second guess myself that I overlooked Grandpa Munster in that box–but I looked three times!
Jason says
Awesome haul as always Brian! Those little Gremlins are pretty sweet, but that Mario would have been the find for me! I remember buying SMB PVC figures at little pharmacies back in the day. I did pretty well this past weekend myself. Check it out and let me know what you think.
Brian says
Germs?! I have no idea what those are, but now I need to start looking for them. 😉 You had a great weekend Jason!
Josh Bryant says
Were you interested in selling the miniatures?
Brian says
Sorry, but those sold a while ago.
chief says
hi I am interested in the marvel cards folder you brought.
Would you still by any chance have it?
Would you sell it too?
Brian says
Sorry, but that binder of cards was sold a while ago. Thanks for asking.
