Here’s how I spent $6 this weekend. After a long hot summer, the community yard sales are finally starting to show up again. I went to a large neighborhood sale on Saturday which was great because it was more like a flea market where everyone brought their stuff to one large field and sold stuff out of the back of their cars. There weren’t a whole lot of pop culture treasures, but I always seem to find a few fun things…
This collection of old Peanuts books was a great deal at $3. I’ll probably sell the whole lot on eBay, but if anyone needs to fill a gap in their collection, let me know.
I picked up a few Far Side books for my kids and look what fell out of one of them. Could it be? Could this be a long lost Gary Larson concept sketch?!? probably not.
I got a Marvel Heroes miniature game for 50 cents which was a steal. It looks like it was never played since the cards are still in the shrinkwrap but the Elektra figure is missing and the game board is torn in half from being folded the wrong way. But I don’t care–getting this set of figures for 50 cents is fine by me. I do love those miniature figures!
I love buying random grab bags of toys. The bag I bought for 50 cents was filled with deer figurines (anyone need a ceramic deer salt and pepper shaker?), but it also had this tiny little Matchbox car from 1972. What could be better than an outhouse on wheels? It will go well with my recently acquired shopping cart on wheels.
Of course, the true treasure of the day was this windup sparking Godzilla. And look, he brought a friend!
Anyone else dig up any yard sale treasure this weekend?

Good grief, That sure is a lot of Peanuts books! Love that sparking Creature from the black lagoon.
Brian says
You’re right! I had a mental lapse on that creature! I assumed it was Godzilla because it matched up with the King Kong windup toy I have on my shelf. Thanks for setting me straight. 😉
brothermidnight says
I have the Godzilla sitting in front of me so together we have the whole set 🙂
Brian says
Excellent! I wonder if they made more than the three. I need to do a little homework.
brothermidnight says
I only recall seeing the three for sell back when they were new. I still need to reacquire that creature someday.
Brian says
I’ll trade you the creature for Godzilla. 😉

Nice haul! I did OK this weekend, but I’m getting tired of the community sales. Not everyone pulls their weight in those setups. Look for my next Thrift Justice either tomorrow or Wednesday – especially if you’re a die cast collector.
Brian says
As previously stated: “I do not collect Hot Wheels.” BUT… I can’t wait to see what you found. 😉

Great stuff. I went to a flea market myself and scored 3 STAR WARS talking helmets (clone trooper, Captain Rex, and Darth Vader) for $5. I was happy..now to Craigslist.
Brian says
Just in time for the Halloween rush!
Charles Pechonick says
Very jealous of the Peanut book find!
Brian says
You collect those don’t you Charles? Are there any in there that you needed? Drop me an email if so.
Charles Pechonick says
I know I am missing a few of them.
my paypal account has been locked right now though. A eBay buyer has claimed not to have received has package even though I sent it UPS with delivery confirmation.
If your willing to wait until I have this mess fixed ( I sent the UPS info to paypal this morning so I expect i fairly fast resolution) I could send you a list of the ones I am missing tonight.
Charles Pechonick says
If not and you need a quick turn around no big deal I understand.
Brian says
I’m in no hurry. Send me an email with the list of books you need and I’ll set them aside.

When I usually find stuff at the Mexican flea markets it is usually stuff no one from the states wants. Wow Peanuts books. Great find!
BubbaShelby says
That ‘Matchbox’ is actually a Hot Wheels Zowee called ‘Home Sweet Home.’ They are relatively hard to come by as they were only made for a short time in the seventies. Nice find!
Brian says
Sweet! Thanks for the info Eric. I really need to get better glasses–I read M-A T on the bottom and saw “Matchbox”, but it is in fact Mattel. A quick ebay search shows me this one is called either “Hut’ or “Home Sweet Home.”
I’m gonna stop writing about these things and just show pictures so everyone else can tell me what I found. 😉
Stacey Rader says
So jealous of the Creature find! I really want a set of those, but alas, my Kong stands alone at the moment.

I used to read those Peanuts books as a kid. Seeing those titles bought back a lot of memories.
Loved those Marvel minis. My eyes zoomed right to Spidey 😀
Rondal says
Man… I only wish I could find half the cool things you do at garage sales Brian! Last one I went to, the best I came away with was a Glow Worm that didn’t glow. 🙂

Peanuts books make me so nostalgic, I have the spanish version of “El Gran Libro de Preguntas y Respuestas de Carlitos” (Charlie Brown’s Super Book of Questions and Answers) book collection. My books now old and partially broken, but I have a lot of childhood memories with them 😀
