If Superman is your thing, Hake’s has some excellent vintage items you might want to add to your collection. The Hake’s Auction #202 will run from Jan 12-February 3, 2011, and you can bid online. Here are some of the coolest Superman items that will be offered up for sale…
This Marx “Turnover Tank” toy always sells for a bundle. Superman lifts the tank as if it were only made of tin!
This tie would certainly look spiffy at work!
The packaging for this squirt gun is excellent, and that gun is one of the best I’ve ever seen. I wonder if the water spits out of Supe’s mouth or his fist. So cool!
i have one of these puppets but not in the original packaging. I might need to upgrade.
The Supermen of America was a super secret cult formed to promote the Superman radio show in the 30’s and 40’s. You received this pinback after joining the club:
Poor Superman is trapped a million years in the future in this CGC graded copy of Action Comics #300. I’m not so sure about that beard.
This 1940 wooden, jointed doll by Ideal Novelty & Toy Co would be the crown jewel for any Superman collection. I saw one of these at the D.C. Big Flea a few months ago where it was going for $800.
All of these items would certainly make a statement in your collection, but if you’re like me and your pockets aren’t as full as you might like, you could always get a book about Superman to satisfy your Super-lust. I’d recommend Boys of Steel: The Creators of Superman or Mythology: The DC Comics Art of Alex Ross. Either of which would make for a great Saturday afternoon. If you end up buying something at Hake’s, be sure to let me know what you got!
