Yesterday, I showed you a bunch of fun pop culture items that are on display in the Smithsonian museums in Washington, DC. The catalyst that got me to head downtown was a Facebook post that the Smithsonian put up showing off a display of vintage lunchboxes. Check out the post here.
After touring the entire museum, I was stumped, because the lunchboxes were nowhere to be found. I finally traded in my man card and asked for help. The lady at the desk knew right away where to point me — down two flights of stairs, in the cafeteria. I didn’t realize that floor was even open to the public since it’s not quite as snazzy as the rest of place, but we went on down, and this is what we found…
If you clicked that link above, you’ll realize why I was a bit underwhelmed. This display was literally in the cafeteria line, and it was glass on both sides, which makes any photos look pretty crummy. Despite all that, it was fun to see all these lunchboxes, some of which I have in my personal collection. I can’t imagine David Hasselhoff would have too many reasons to show up in the Smithsonian, but he was represented here on the Knight Rider lunchbox.

YOU ASKED FOR DIRECTIONS?!?!? For shame. 🙂
Cool collection to see, though. It’s a shame that it was displayed like that – kind of reminds me of those “museum” displays at the airport.
Nevertheless, neat lunchboxes!
