The Rapture’s impending doom was upon us and we only had a few scant hours left on this earth, so how did I spend that precious time? At the yard sales of course!
This weekend’s sales were few and far between so I had to work for the goods this time. Plus, we brought the kid along and after about the third stop, they were ready to be done, while my wife and I were just gearing up. Nothing makes yard sales more fun than hungry and crying kids in the back seat. Despite all that, we rose to the challenge and came home with another good assortment of pop culture goodies, and the boys got a huge collection of Pokémon figures and a soccer net, so they were happy in the end.
One thing I always look for is old magazines, but I think most people can’t imagine anyone actually buying their old magazines, so they don’t put them out. I did manage to find a few neat ones though, including a Dark Crystal movie special, along with some old MAD paperbacks and a Thundercats record book (sadly, without the record).
I can not pass up cool-looking vintage paperbacks. I already owned that Conan book and don’t really care for Star Trek, but for a quarter, I would take these home.
It was weird because I didn’t see a single action figure this weekend, but I found all these huge figures. That Batman in the back is 18″ tall and shoots Nerf rockets! I love the big Batman and Superman figures, but the Spiderman and Harry Goblin walkie talkies are a bit questionable. You have to speak into their belly buttons, so try doing that without looking somewhat like a perv. I wonder if these were a big hit?
I also couldn’t resist the box art on these VHS tapes. Now all I need is a VCR.
I was surprised to find this vintage He-Man Battlecat late in the day, and was not going to leave it behind for a quarter!
The yard sales were a bit lukewarm this week, but I was able to make a great score on Craigslist. Check out this huge collection of Starcom toys – an absolute steal at 20 bucks!
I also wanted to send a huge shout out and “Thank you” to the Surfing Pizza for sending me these awesome Nintendo trading cards and stickers. Check out the Surfing Pizza’s site for some of the best nostalgic writing on the net.
So, did you find anything cool and collected to add to your collection this week?

Very nice haul, Brian. I dig the Cracked with Mork and Mindy. And that Starcom lot is awesome.

Man, you’re good at this. Battlecat for $0.25 was such a steal. A lot of other really cool stuff there too.
