Yahoo recently had an article that listed the rarest video games. Number five on that list was the Atari 2600’s Air Raid. The game has a distinctive blue handle that made it easy to rip out of the console and throw against the wall, which is why it’s so rare. Kidding.
A copy of this game with its original box recently sold on eBay for an astounding $31,600.00. This is the only complete copy of this game known to exist, but I wouldn’t be surprised if a few more show up on eBay once word of this sale gets out.
Mental Floss has the inside scoop on the seller:
“Thanks to the cartridge’s distinct blue case and “T-Handle” top, he remembered owning it when he was a kid. So he started digging through boxes of old stuff in the garage and, lo and behold, he found it—the thirteenth known copy of the game in existence. He put it up on eBay and the bids started rolling in.”
I don’t know where all this money is coming from for these old games. I have a hard enough time justifying $12 for a used copy of Hail to the Chimp.

The first thing I thought of when I saw this article title was Atari RIVER Raid. I’m like, yes, that game was awesome, but $31 Gs of awesome?!

Paxton, you don’t happen to have one of these in your storage shed do you? I’ll give you 5 bucks for it!
