So a couple of weeks ago we told you about the lady who sold a copy of Stadium Events on eBay for over $13k. That story made the rounds on the interwebs and this guy in Kansas realized he had a copy of the game in his basement — and it was unopened, and in the original shrinkwrap! He sold it on eBay for $41,300. Now, THAT is a good day.
He was planning on donating a bunch of games to Goodwill, including the copy of Stadium Events. I’ve been known to troll the local Goodwill stores, and have never come across one of these games, but I will sure be looking now!
Fewer than 20 copies of Stadium Events are known to exist still in the shrink wrap. It is so rare because it had a limited release and required a special controller (which later became the Nintendo Power Pad). In 1988, Nintendo bought the rights to the game and recalled it before it reached retailers.
I see another copy is up for bid on eBay. Current bid is a mere $100k+.
