The cover painting of this Giant Classic comic by George Wilson is one of my favorite renderings of King Kong. This comic was published in 1968 by Whitman Publishing, and is based on Merian C. Cooper’s original 1933 film. The interior art by Alberto Giolitti is equally impressive, and I thought I’d share some of my favorite panels and pages…

“Don’t be alarmed, ladies and gentlemen. Those chains are made of chrome steel.” All month long, I will be showing off King Kong collectibles from my personal collection in a series called KONGTOBER, so if you’re a fan of King Kong and movie monsters, I think you’re going to like what you see.

King Kong falls off the Empire State Building, hits it twice on the way down and leaves nary a scratch. That’s some good, old fashioned American workmanship right there. 😉

He couldn’t just fall, he had to bounce a couple of times too. All it’s missing is a couple of sound effect balloons — Bonk! Bonk!
