What the flock! Here’s one of my favorites–a furry, flocked King Kong coin bank, probably from the 60’s. I have seen an identical version of this that is a shampoo bottle, but have yet to add that one to my collection. I can’t imagine having a flocked furry shampoo bottle–shivers.
I love the look of this bank. It looks like Kong is grasping his lapels while belting out a Christmas carol–“Oh, holy night..”
The bank stands just over 8″ tall and the fur has a way of collecting lint. The stopper on the bottom says “Hong Kong Made In.” Not made in Hong Kong–Hong Kong made in. Other than that, I don’t know anything about this bank. Heck, it night not even be King Kong, but it sure looks like him to me!
Yeah, his tooth is broken off but that just gives him character.

“Don’t be alarmed, ladies and gentlemen. Those chains are made of chrome steel.” All month long, I will be showing off King Kong collectibles from my personal collection in a series called KONGTOBER, so if you’re a fan of King Kong and movie monsters, I think you’re going to like what you see.

Hi, my name is Matt. I was at an auction and I won the shampoo bottle version of this “Flocked King Kong coin bank” that you are showing. I was wondering what you might think it is worth and are you interested in purchasing it yourself. I can send pictures if you wish. it has 98% of its furry fuzz intact.

I’ve seen those flocked bottles sell for $10 up to $50. The higher priced ones still had the label attached by an elastic cord around the top.
Thanks for the offer, but I’m not really in the market for another one.

I have the shampoo bottle you talked about earlier, and I’m just wondering what you think the value would be on it. Thanks!

Well, I bought mine on eBay for $5, but I’ve seen them sell for over a hundred. I guess the price is a little negotiable! 😉
