This 1970’s wind-up King Kong figure stands 3.75″ tall. Wind him up and he walks and spits fire! (Well, sparks, but that’s still pretty cool.)
Toys like this one are the reason I get so much joy out of collecting King Kong items. Kong can be depicted in any manner–silly, strange, sympathetic, fierce–without harming the underlying character. This vintage wind-up sparking King Kong toy is a goofy figure to say the least, but it’s great! Just look at that face…

“Don’t be alarmed, ladies and gentlemen. Those chains are made of chrome steel.” All month long, I will be showing off King Kong collectibles from my personal collection in a series called KONGTOBER, so if you’re a fan of King Kong and movie monsters, I think you’re going to like what you see.

First off, I love wind-ups. Second of all, SPARKING wind-ups are the best, whether they make sense or not. Thirdly that is the most adorable and forlorn little looking King-Kong ever.

He’s great isn’t he? I think it’s the teeth that do it. 😉
