I don’t know what it is about the Memorial Day Weekend, but it always seems to find me rearranging the shelves. John, over at the Batcave Toy Room has been doing a month-long blogathon about rearranging his collection, and that has certainly inspired me to work on my own shelves.
Last night, I cleared two shelves by mothballing 60 of my first edition books, which was pretty painful to be honest. I thought I would get the vintage Aurora model kits out of the glass cabinet and put them on the shelves since they really don’t require too much effort when it comes to dusting. They certainly make a decent backdrop, but I’m not sure I’m loving this yet. It’s a bit jarring on the eyes.
Looking at all the stuff I have in the cabinets and on the shelves, while also knowing what I have in storage has got me thinking a lot of crazy thoughts, and a serious purge might be in my future. I would honestly be happy if my toy collection was contained in the glass cabinets entirely and the wall of shelves remained dedicated to books, but that would require some SERIOUS trimming of the fat.
Maybe the books will go back on the shelf, I don’t know. At least I have a few days to work on it.

Having limited space myself, I can certainly relate! I have a space in my basement that filled up fast. I’m having to rotate my displays as well! My wife didn’t think making the guest room into my secondary toy room was as great an idea as I did!
I’m planning to do some serious organizing in my cave as well….but being a teacher, I’ve put off the heavy lifitng until summer 🙂

Thanks for the mention sir and I am glad it has inspired you. I hope it’s doing the same for others. Your displays always look great Brian. Rearranging the Batcave Toy Room not only has me really cleaning up my toy collection, but also other areas such as my book collection. Organizing is so freeing, it feels great, doesn’t it?

I’m not at the point of it feeling great quite yet. 😉

I’m feeling for you! Just finished moving my desk and one of my bookcases into the master bedroom because my office/man cave will be converted into a nursery this Summer, so I’m losing a significant amount of display space.
Still trying to figure out where the other bookcase is going…

ah kids. You will not only lose space for your collection, but will also lose time and money for it. 😉
But it’s TOTALLY worth it! congrats.
