A stack of packages was waiting for me when I returned from vacation this past weekend, and I wanted to be sure to give proper shout-outs to everyone who made my return feel like Christmas morning.
First up was an envelope of groovy swag from one of the best retro websites out there, Plaid Stallions. I won a caption contest over there a while back and was rewarded with these awesome cards and a CD full of Bionic Man and Woman toy commercials. Cool!
Next, there was a large box full of toys from Jboypacman over at the Revenge of the Cosmic Ark. We’ve been having a good time trading toys for a while now and this is the latest batch. I love the vintage Pac-Man mug and Jitsu, but I really was not prepared for the heavy pine scent that Moss Man puts out. Phew! He smells like Christmas!
The other day, I saw a retweet from illustrator Brian Lindahl about some sketch cards he was selling — for a buck! Now, how could I pass that up? Brian is incredibly talented, and has worked for toy companies such as Hasbro. I love original art, and these cards were probably the best bargain I have found in a long time–they really are great little masterpieces.
The last package was a tiny little box that held these pieces of Marvel bubble gum from 1978. This is what you would call an impulse buy–I saw them on eBay and hit the “Buy It Now” button before realizing that I was buying gum that is almost 40 years old. It’s still pretty awesome.
Love that Hulk and Thor artwork and I am pretty sure I remember that gum being like Bazooka Bubble Gum.
Yep, it’s Bazooka-sized–I won’t vouch for the taste though. 😉
Glad that package arrived safe and sound Brian and am looking forward to more trades in the future my friend.
Thanks again John!
No problem Brian it was fun.
Hehe, the Halloween-y stuff and the little bug guy are indirectly from me. Good to see they’re making the rounds.
Well, those little guys found their way into my Halloween case, so they’ll be hanging around my cave for a while. 😉
Yeah Dex i thought those would fit perfectly in Brian’s Halloween case i remember him having from a post a while ago and i hope it was ok i sent them Brian’s way.
Absolutely! Half the fun of sending random stuff to people is knowing it’s going to end up going to someone else eventually.
Cool. : )
I bet that CD of commercials is awesome. Let me know if there are any good ones.
They’re all awesome, of course. 😉
I was particularly amused by how girly they tried to make the Bionic Woman toys. Her accessories were a beauty salon and a house, a la Barbie.
I wouldn’t be able to resist opening those gum packages to read the comics. And that Pac-Man mug is sweeeeeeeet.
That impulse buy was a quality one IMO Brian.Captain America being my favorite of the bunch.Great acquisitions!
I too love original art and would love to get my hands on some sketch cards from Brian to add to my collection as well.
Those pieces of gum are awesome! I live the 70’s art on the wrappers, especially on Spidey.
Great website, “Cool and Collected” I love vintage stuff. Super big thanks for the beautifully displayed sketch cards. I hope you like them.
Best Wishes!
