I’ve been wanting to give some props to the fine folks at Fisher Price for their Imaginext super hero toys for a while. My kids love these toys, and I am continually impressed with their “fun quotient.” DC made a very smart move in partnering with Fisher Price for this line, and with the huge number of characters, these toys could be around for a good, long time.
Imaginext toys are geared towards the younger kids, aged 3-8, so they are incredibly durable. There are no small pieces to lose or break. My two boys beat these things to heck, but the toys keep on living for the next big play session.
Check out this giant robot. It blinks, makes noises, and shoots things. What’s not to love?
As a parent, the best thing about these toys is their price. For six bucks, you get a figure with a vehicle, like this Catwoman Figure with Motorcycle. A typical action figure runs 10 bucks these days, so there’s much less anxiety throwing one of these in the cart. There’s also a great variety of figures and vehicles available, so it’s fun to see what’s hanging on the pegs each time you visit the store.
At the recent Toy Fair event, Fisher Price unveiled the next toys in the super heroes line, including this excellent new Batcave, which reminds me of the Castle Grayskull and Star Wars play sets I grew up with, and I’m so excited to see my kids playing with this.
Oh, and did I mention that there are going to be Dino-Riders? Dino-Riders! Actually, these are dinosaurs that look a whole lot like Dino-Riders, but way more fun. Guess what my kids will be getting for Christmas?
Check out this video by CollectionDX to see the awesome toys coming out this year.
To all you “serious” toy collectors, I suggest that the next time you visit the toys store, take a stroll through the Fisher Price aisle. I can totally see these toys as collectibles of the future, and when my kids outgrow these, I’ll box them up and save them for when they get nostalgic for the toys they used to play with when they were little.
Attention Fisher Price: If you would like any product testers, my kids (and I) would be happy to sign up! 😀

I didn’t know about the new Batcave! I actually got the first Imaginext Batcave from a thrift store last month for $3. I don’t have the figures, however. I have some DC Direct things that are almost the same scale. Someone on craigslist was selling Imaginext Batman figures last week, but I couldn’t get down to VA to pick them up so I had to pass. It’s just such a cute scale. I fought collecting them for so long, but that Catwoman is both rare and gorgeous.

$3? That’s great! I held off on the first Batcave, but this new one will definitely make its way home with me at some point.
I saw that Craigslist post, but I think those were the old Imaginext castles, which aren’t too compatible with these super hero toys.

Yeah, I saw the one you’re talking about. That was the grandma who bought them for her grandkids who were too old for them. This other one was a woman who I believe ran a daycare. She had extra figures of just the Batman series. Penguin, Robin, 2 Jokers and 2 Batmans for $6. Great price, just inconvenient time, as she could only do it before 4 PM Monday-Friday.

I love those Imaginext figures! Our local Target has a display every Christmas season with whatever fancy Imaginext playset they’re trying to market for that year. Usually the batteries are dead by the time I see it (or they just never hook it up right), but it always makes me feel like a kid again to see those.
I don’t know why they haven’t given the He-Man property the Imaginext treatment yet. I’d love to see a little Skeletor in He-Man in an Imaginext Grayskull playset.

That would be phenomenal. Mattel and Fisher-Price, let’s make that happen! Introduce a whole new generation to the MOTU world.

Well, I’m sure once the movie is under way we’ll see a lot more MotU stuff come along and some of it aimed at younger kids like that. With luck, though, they’ll have some of it based on the older figures and not just the movie interpretations. I hated that about the GI Joe Combat Heroes line.

I found the Target exclusive set of the Batmobile, 2 Batman figures, Robin, Joker, Two-face, and Joker oil drums for $3.50 MIB at a Goodwill store. SCORE! My 3 year old loves the set.

Excellent! You can never go wrong with Batman. 😉
