This is a great time of year to wander the food aisles and see what the marketing geniuses have devised to promote their products for Halloween. Like in past year’s I’m going to post some of the best packaging designs I come across. So far, the pickings have been slim, but there are a few bright spots. Here are some of the products that caught my collector’s eye…
Life Savers Gummies have put a few of our favorite monsters to good use. The design on the package leaves a bit to be desired as the logo and spooky shapes were just thrown on there. I would have preferred to see a more integrated design with a bigger emphasis on the characters.
These fruit snacks also come in small pouches to hand out on Halloween night. I like the look of these pouches and could see a Frankenstein or Mummy collector wanting a few of these for his collection, but I’m not sure why there isn’t a Dracula in this format.
Betty Crocker has this festive box of Fruit Flavored Snacks on the shelves. I like the typography of the “Halloween” and the box is kind of fun, but man, if you hand out these fruit snacks on Halloween night, you will definitely see a flaming paper sack on your doormat later that night. Having kids, I’ve become somewhat of a connoisseur of fruit snacks of late, and I can tell you that these things taste HORRIBLE! I won’t even give these to my kids to eat, so I can’t very well drop them in the neighborhood kids’ pillowcases on Halloween night.
In my opinion, Florida’s Natural Au’Some Nuggets take the prize for the creepiest box design of the year. There’s just something about those fruit faces that gives me the shivers. It’s weird because this box doesn’t really look like a Halloween promotion since the design is almost identical to the regular package, but when you look a little closer… yikes! These fiendish fruit snacks will eat your children.

It’s good to know that I’m not the only one who enjoys gazing at the new packaging every year. I also noticed a distinct lack of much new this year, at least at the larger chains (Target, Walmart, Publix) – more than a little disappointing.

I haven’t seen any of these locally, but those Florida’s Natural Nuggets look like they’re really tasty! I did come across Boo-Berry and Frankenberry Fruit Roll-Ups at my local Wal-Mart though. I picked up a box of the Boo-Berry variety, and did a mini-review. If you see ’em, get ’em, ‘cuz they’re really good!

Those Florida naturals things are actually really good, but those packages are the size of a large postage stamp.

My kids usually chuck the fruit snacks along with any real fruit they get from trick or treating. can’t blame them.

My kids love fruit snacks so I didn’t think twice about shelling out a few bucks for those Betty Crocker ones, but man…ugh.
