It’s Friday, so a double feature is in order. Here are a couple of Mexican lobby cards from my collection, starting with this beauty for 1951’s “La Novia del Gorila,” or “Bride of the Gorilla” for us gringos.
La Novia del Gorila (Bride of the Gorilla) – 1951
If you know me, you know about my monkey fetish, so buying this lobby card was a no-brainer…
[SPOILER ALERT] The gorilla in this movie is actually Raymond Burr’s character, who has been cursed. Every night he finds himself turning into a fierce gorilla. (We don’t need no stinking werewolves!)
El Mundo en Peligro (Them) – 1954
Our second feature is none other than 1954’s “El Mundo en Peligro” also known as “Them.”
After some atomic bomb testing, ants have mutated into giant beasts that go on a rampage. Most of the ants and their nests are defeated but not before two flying queen ants have escaped the nest. Terror…Panic…the Downfall.
Can you imagine what it must have been like to see those giant ants on the big screen back in the 50’s? I bet sales of Raid went up ten-fold that year.
