Calvin lives in a cave in the high Tundra where he splits his time between blogging, monitoring the nepharious schemes of the Cephalopod Menance, and praising the beauty in all the things designed around him, be they made of skin and bones or PVC.
How did your collection start? What was the first item in your collection?
I have a picture of me with a Marx Johnny West figure, you remember the ones that smelled great and gave you an insane amount of accessories. Then I had all the great. GI JOE, PLAYMOBIL, BIG JIM, MEGO SUPERHEROES, STAR TREK, PLANET OF THE APES. It was beautiful man. However, when we moved back to North America from Europe, all my stuff was lost–all my boxes from my room. Broke my heart.
Approximately how many items are in your collection?
I currently have 4,000 pieces, most in original packaging because that is how I like to display them. I also have over 12,000 comic books which filled my love of fantasy and fantastic characters, until they stopped returning their investment in entertainment value. Soon after, I saw a really cool DR STRANGE figure who had a cape you could model so his feet appeared floating and I was back on the action figure collecting wagon.
Do you have a favorite item in your collection?
My EVEL KNIEVEL figure and my Mego Spider-Man, the only things to survive the loss of that cargo plane.
How do you store/display your collection?
On the walls, on shelves…
Is there a “holy grail” item that you would love to add to your collection?
Those huge SENTINEL figures and my own INFINITY GAUNTLET
Do you collect other things?
ART related to my ‘Cave of Cool’ blog. Cosplay pieces and weaponry for the day I finally dress up.
Do you have a favorite collecting story or experience?
I thought I invented the term TIME LORD and I can prove it. I also invented MONSTERS, INC but just the title. My story was much different and much cooler.
Do you have any advice for new collectors who are just starting a collection?
Buy what you like. Open some but not all. Love them for the beautiful pieces of work that they are.

That’s the great thing about Packaged collections. Just sitting and staring at it provides nearly as much enjoyment as actually owning it – and without all that pesky getting murdered by my wife.
