“Aunty Donut” has a thing for big hairy guys with long fingernails. She has been collecting Wolfman and werewolf items since she was a little girl and has amassed a huge collection of toys, plush, comics, movies, art, autographs, purses and wallets. Check it out…
How did your collection start? What was the first item in your collection?
I started collecting wolfmen when i was about five. My family supports my obsession, contributing to it regularly. Much of my collection is from gifts that I have received over the years. I am a student with budget limitations, so I purchase my werewolves on the cheap. I shop for most of my monster art on etsy, while ebay and ComicCon fill out the rest of my collectibles.
Do you have a favorite item in your collection?
I don’t have a particular favorite item but many of them have sentimental value. The werewolves from my family are treasured. The werewolves from loved ones who have passed are vital to my collection and I hold those items particularly dear.
How do you store/display your collection?
I am a firm believer in framing artwork I get. As for my figures and toys I display them on shelves. To keep smaller items organized I framed buttons and 1960’s charms in frames with no glass. I would love to get glass cases for my collection to cut down on the bane of my existence that is dust.
Is there a “holy grail” item that you would love to add to your collection?
A Lomiton Wolfman figure from Argentina. It was a restaurant premium figure but the sculpting is awesome and it glows in the dark.
Do you collect other things?
I collect Hawaiiana, tiki, tiki cups, Vintage Kitchen ware, Dia De Los Muertos art, and comics.
Do you have a favorite collecting story or experience?
When I was around 10 years old, my mother who is now past, won a little wolfman plush for me. I had gone to a local arcade for a birthday party. There was this little generic wolfman figure prize but I didn’t get enough tickets to win him. My mom took me home but later that night she took me back to the arcade and she played skee ball until we had enough to tickets to win him. My mom was an awesome skee ball player and I will always cherish this little wolfman that she won, out of love for me.
Do you have any advice for new collectors who are just starting a collection?
Don’t let others demean your collection. If you love collecting and it makes you happy then keep going and you’ll eventually find people with the same interests that support your collection. If you have an awesome family who supports your obsession then make it easy for them on holidays and birthdays, make a list with links of the items you want to collect. It saves them time and avoids duplicate collectibles.
