Adam Carter is a 26-year-old student in the U.K. with a passion for collecting James Bond movie posters.
How did your collection start? What was the first item in your collection?
I have collected movie memorabilia for many years and have had an interest in James Bond my entire life. My passion for Bond posters, however, really kicked off in November of 2005; a time when I discovered the power of the internet as a major source of material as well as contacts.
I collect Bond posters because of the interest I have in the subject, particularly the artistic & design differences seen throughout the years; from the evolution of the 007 logo to the change in use of hand drawn illustration to that of photographic imagery in the modern era.
Approximately how many items are in your collection?
Over 1,000 individual posters, plus duplicates.
Do you have a favorite item in your collection?
I don’t have a single favourite, but one of the best in the collection is my Thunderball U.S. Door Panel Set.
How do you store/display your collection?
I store my collection flat, in plan chests.
Is there a “holy grail” item that you would love to add to your collection?
Yes, but I prefer not to say what it is! Although, I can tell you that recently I acquired two “Holy Grails” in the Diamonds Are Forever UK Quad (Marler Haley style) and the Goldfinger UK Double Crown (very rare text style).
Do you collect other things?
Not any longer, however, I used to collect signed football (soccer) memorabilia, coins, pin badges, movie trailers – all sorts!
Do you have a favorite collecting story or experience?
Yes. Finding the elusive, fellow collector living near me with a wonderful Bond poster collection; I had heard of this collector for many years, but could never find him! Then by chance our paths crossed in March this year!
Do you have any advice for new collectors who are just starting a collection?
Yes. Try to be set on what you want from the start – it’s a lot easier when you know which way you are going to collect from the off. Some people concentrate on specific areas, for example; posters from one country, particular poster sizes, or one poster from each Bond film! However, if like me you want a copy of every poster you can get your hands on, then I recommend buying collections. Building up a large collection in a specialist market such as James Bond can take years! I know some people who have been collecting since Bond burst onto the big screen in 1962!
