A rare copy of the first comic book featuring Superman has sold for $317,200 in an auction held by ComicConnect.com. This is one of the highest prices ever paid for a comic book. The winning bid for the 1938 issue of Action Comics #1 was submitted by John Dolmayan, the drummer for the rock band System Of A Down. Dolmyan is a dealer in rare comics and he acquired the Superman comic on behalf of a client.
Only about 100 copies of Action Comics No 1 are known to exist, and it’s not often that they come up for sale. The previous owner of this copy purchased it in a second-hand shop in the early 1950s for 35 cents. Not a bad return on investment.
