A Collection a Day #62 – Star Wars trading cards, originally uploaded by Cool and Collected.
I’ve made it to 62 collections without a single reference to Star Wars, but that changes now! As someone who collects pretty much anything cool from pop culture, it might seem strange that I don’t have much from the Star Wars franchise.
When I was 12, my brother and I had a pretty good collection of the original Star Wars figures, ships, and a playset or two. One hot summer day, we were at the pool and wanted a sno-cone. That’s when my brother had the brilliant idea of selling all our Star Wars toys so that we could afford sno-cones for the rest of the summer. We had an impromptu yard sale on the curb that afternoon and a lady pulled up in her car and offered us a quarter for each figure. We were rich!
In hindsight, I have never regretted anything more. I never got back into collecting anything relating to Star Wars, even though I have been tempted many times. At this point, there is so much merchandise out there, I wouldn’t even know where to begin.
These trading cards are the only thing that survived the great sno-cone debacle of 1984. Sniff.
I have collected so many different things that I thought it would be fun to try and photograph a collection a day and see how far I can get.
