A Collection a Day #47 – Modern Library Books, originally uploaded by Cool and Collected.
In 1917, the Modern Library series was introduced, and over 750 titles have been printed since then. The goal of the series was to reprint the world’s best books. They are an affordable way for the masses to read and collect great works of literature.
You can find Modern Library books in just about any used book store, and new ones are still being produced by Random House today. Some of the artwork created for the dust jackets is excellent, some, not so much. I tend to focus my collection on older copies that still have their dust jackets, but you could create a collection based on any number of criteria — by author, high points, printings, bindings, etc. As always, collect what you love.
I have collected so many different things that I thought it would be fun to try and photograph a collection a day and see how far I can get.
